Thread starter, if you want a simple and legal option.
Book your car for an MOT, drive to there, then after it book it in with NMS and drive to NMS, thats perfectly legal, pass or fail on the test.
Might be cheaper than a trailer, and it will give them a heads up on what work is needed for the MOT too.
And if you take it back to the same place for the MOT once the work is done it is often free for the retest (although they can legally charge you once the vehicle leaves the premises it is often the case that they dont)

Thats the good thing about PF, you cant talk utter nonsense without it being pulled up and correct, so threads ultimately tend to end up with the right info in them despite the occasional bit of duff stuff in the middle like you posted.

If so yes you can drive straight to them no problem at all if it is booked in. If they arent an MOT garage and will be taking it to a 3rd party, then no you cant drive it to NMS, only direct to the garage. But pass or fail you can take it to NMS after.

Only worry is your car will flash up straight away on a ANPR or you'll get a fine through the door from a roadside camera as they don't know what your doing.
It's a right ballache explaining everything and hoping they are reluctant in believing you.
BUT could you not get some sort of paperwork fromNMS to state it's in for MOT etc then it'll be a whole lot easier?

Yeah i know that, nms are just the ones sorting it all out for me, so if they let me know the garage it'll be alright, any problems and i can give police there number. Hopefully just be a simple drive there and not get pulled over though

Get that PRINTED off your computer fella and take it with you,esp if a long distance is being travelled for test,or crossing county policing borders.
Same as if you tax it online, be-sure to print the reciept off so as you can still drive without displaying the disc, you have proof its been bought online and its in the post
Remember to take ALL your documents with you an all(good old tax disc from the postie office once mot'd then),,plod are normally cool about this stuff if you have all your bumph with you, you looks less of a rouge then

not read the whole thread but my 3dr was wrote off on the way back from the mot station, untaxed.
i droved it there, it passed and i was on my way home when i was rear ended. car was insured tho of course.
eventially got paid out from the insurance company but htat was due to the nature of the crash not because it wasnt taxed.
as has ben said, you can drive to and from a prebooked mot, not set distance, without tax or mot

If you fail, you can also drive to a pre-booked garage for repair too, which is something a lot of people arent aware of.
But you cannot drive to a place of repair until it has failed, so if you know something will fail, you have to put it into the test to see it do so, not send it to be fixed first then send it in, which can be a pain.

Being an mot tester i have been asked this a few times the rules are.
The vehicle has to be pre-booked for a test at an mot station not a place of repair if your vehicle passes you will only be exempt from road tax for your return journey home then tax it before use or carry on with sorn.
If it fails you can either take it home or directly to a place of repair after repairs are carried out pre-book a re-test and you will have exemption until you get home.
There is no limit on the distance for an mot station however while you are driving to your test you are responsible for making sure the vehicle is roadworthy. ( So if you want to take a complete shed for a test to see if it would pass and were stopped on route by vosa or police any defects they find you could be prosecuted for) taking it for a pre-booked test does not cover roadworthyness infact neither does a current test certificate.
To the op if your happy your car is ok book a test and drive it there you have nothing to worry about.

I love how some people get all uptight, even when then have no idea what they are going on about!
As most have said if its booked in for an MOT then as long as your on route to said MOT station its fine to have no tax!
