Default AP CP5200/ Compbrake B4 pro race 5

I've been told that the Compbrake caliper is a direct copy of the Ap Cp5200. Looking at some pics they do look identical !

Now I've not had much good to say about Compbrake calipers in the past but if these are a direct copy they " should " work great.

Any feedback appreciated !

As far as I'm aware they are from the same manufacturer the only difference being the AP are finished in powdercoat - all parts are the exact same

Difference between copying something and actually copying it 100% accurately.

I know exactly what you mean mate, I wasn't that convinced when he said they were a copy but I thought I'd check on the Internet knowledge database

Seriously not worth the hassle mate, I'm having to change my current pedal box as its just not performing and is just plain dangerous...
Im all for fit and pay once... Rather than fit and works once!

Know how you feel mate, most of their stuff isn't fit for purpose, they do the odd reasonable product but I do mean odd bit !

I'll tell my mate the same thing I told him in the 1st place lol

they are not a copy as such but are made by same manufacturer and finished differently as far as i know, got some to experiment with when ap lost there right to be sole user of the product before compbrake got there hands on them and they seem a great caliper and due to size are easily fitted/adapted from car to car

all of a sudden last year there was a load of calipers released that just happen to look like the 5200.

The ones i have certainly look good, and up for the job - i will be using them on my car.

and the price - well - you couldnt buy second hand AP for the price of the new ones.

All the bad chat i have read online refers mainly to their other product's - the pedal box, comp struts.

I have read on one site that they had an issue with the 2nd version of the B4 which didn't look anything like this 5200 style and was more box shaped

I fitted some of those b4's to a impreza and they were disappointing. It ended up on the same size AP's and the difference was night and day.

The Compbrake calipers did flex like mad which I never thought was a good sign, hopefully these new ones will be a big improvement.

They do look the same, but I always believe you get what you pay for and I say buy once and get the best you can afford, but at the price of these they look like a good alternative if on a budget.

Having known the 'compbrake' people for approx 20 years in all the incarnations of company name (lol) I can honestly say there has been some bad decisions made at times on the design/manufacture of some of the components.

its a case of you need to evaluate what your paying over the quality of the item, and i would say as with a lot of companies making components you have to have them i your hand to self evaluate if what your getting is what your paying for.

Just because something is cheap does'nt necessarily mean its total junk. some companies just have high margins compared to others.

Touchy/feely is how i guage items i buy.

I might have missed something somewhere but, your car? Does that mean you're continuing with your Escort WRC build, or is it something different?

Really glad to hear that matey. Although I'm more of an Escort Kit Car person, I still have big enthusiasm for the Escort Cosworth Group A/WRC. There's been a couple on here broken up for spares in the last couple of weeks which does make me a little sad, so it's nice to see someone putting one together!

Be sure to keep up with the updates, would be great to see it progress. And it's ok, historics needs livening up anyway, getting a bit bored of endless MK2 Escorts

I wasvery fortunate to be on some of the british rally rounds in about 1996/97 and always loved the F2 cars, they where awsome to listen too, was also on the Ulster and the Manx when Gwyndaf was driving the ultra wide GSE /response liveried escorts.

there are some slight differances thoough - the finish, and the link pipe is a slight differan shape and has no damping silicone under it.

i have a set on my saph, got them direct from compbrake on ebay for Ł150 pair, only problems were the bridge pipes had to be swapped around and were a very tight fit, nearly ended up cross threading them. also they dont come with anti rattle clips so will need to source some now my pads have worn a bit.

Why did you have to swap your pipes around and what was the issue?

The rattle clips are available from http://www.bgdevelopments.co.uk/ Ł15 odd

Very very jealous! I was still at school and not really properly into it at that time unfortunately. Stunning cars though, all of the F2 kit cars were monsters, and the competition was fierce at that time with so many good drivers in the running.

I can't imagine anything better than the Ulster/Manx rallies at that time, with the monster F2 cars and the Irish tarmac boys in the 4WD Group A cars, what a combination!

I was there !

I remember eamen boland running the yellow WRC escort too.

I take it they have same pad as ap5200 as well then so easy to get replacements. Need to decide what to do on my car as was hoping to get an improvement in braking under the standard wheels but not looking like it will be possible. May give these a go if I change to 17s. Either these or used evo brembo calipers. Do compbrake do a copy of ap5100 caliper as that's what I think will fit under 15s but still undecided as of yet. I like the 3 door on standard wheels and not sure what to do.

I have that on VHS Mark, from the '97 BRC review tape. Was a fantastic year for the championship, probably the best ever in my view. One heck of a crash for McRae that. Very jealous that you got to see those days first hand. So few kit cars on the scene in the UK now, such a shame.

Can someone give me the full low down - can you buy a kit like AP.

Might be a good upgrade for the FRS?

Why did you have to swap your pipes around and what was the issue?

The rattle clips are available from partbox - couple of options, 28 or 32 which i presume is the width of the rotor

http://www.part-box.com/product_info...ducts_id=35184
i had to swap the bridge pipes with the bleed nipples as the calipers were set up for leading where as a saph they are trailing,

surely you just swap sides and this alters leading/trailing instead of swapping bits around

No , with Differential bore pistons you will get a wedge shaped pad in no time ! you swap sides and turn them upside down to avoid this .
