Hi Rod,

Cars on leda suspension at the mo but only lowered 30mm not driven the car as it neeeds a bottom end rebuild.
I'm guessing the handling would still be ok on 18's car will only be 400BHP tops when I've finished so not going to go mad.
R there known issues with handling and big wheels on the cossie then ?
Just I've had big wheels on my demo car fiesta went from 14's to 17's and it was fine.

Cheers

do you need to take the arch liners out for them to fit both front and back?

only thinking of how wide really as i want 8x18s and dont want them catching on the guards

My Saff was on 18's and if you lower the car at all as well as fitting them the front driveshafts end up at such an odd angle that the CV's start eating themselves! If you are dead set on 18's get some vibrtechnics competition spec engine mounts (they are harsh mounts but stop engine/front diff movement).
Personally I would advise you to stick to 17's max.

Hi
It is of course your choice, its not the wheels that are the prob, but the tyres you have to use on the front to fit. Mega low profile elastic bands are for looks not handling. If any benifits existed they would be on mine.
Best of luck with this project & enjoy it.

the 18s do look goo but 17s seem to be the more sensible option, but saying that
i was told the same about my car with the standard whhels, oh well

Dont know if this is true or not but if i remember right i was told that 16s were the best option to go for on a saff dunno. Its all about whether you want looks over handling.

Thanks for all the info everyone. still note decided between 17 and 18's though if I go 17's it will have to be a wheel where the spoke goes to the edge to make them look visually bigger. I don't deal with Rondell wheels but after looking around it seems the Rondell often seen on cossies is no longer available is this correct ?

yeah forgot to say that without coilovers you will be very lucky if they dont foul on the front suspension cups and im 100% an 8j wide rim will hit for deffo cus there real close to the coilovers on my old mans and as you know coilovers dont have a big cup on them

I don't run 18s but i've got 8x17 on the rear of my car and i find that its close to the coilover due to the camber.

But then i suppose it depends how low you go.

cossie crew they look mint, I'm looking for a dark rim as the car is black still note decided though, if you pick the wrong wheel can make the car look so got lots of thinking to do.
I'll be changing to coilovers anyway I think as I have them on our dem car and makes life a lot easier.

Cheers

I'm on 18s, but Rod is right.

For track, it goes straight back on wider 17s.............

Get 18's! I have avo coil overs, lowered 35mm at front and 55mm rear and I have no problems what so ever!

I did buy 17's but they looked too small so I splashed out on a new set of 18's!

I have had 18's on my 2 last 3 doors and although they looked nice i would agree that for handling and ride quality they are shite with 35 profile tyres on!

They may fit straight on but when i fitted the mo`s i had to do a slight mod (2 min job) to the front spring cup as it was catching there.

You may also need to get your arches rolled

IMO my 4x4 handles better and more grip than i had with the 17in alloys i had fitted before.

As for the normal drive feels no diffrent than 17in

Heard they not as good on 2wd and 18in alloys could give you worse handing

I think I may of found the wheel I need , Doo that looks sweet and looks to be the same colour as the one I'm getting though mines not a Rouse.
Think I might go for the dark colour but silver looks nice too decisions decisions
Still I got a few months of saving and engine building to do first

Day to day driving 18's make the car ride like a Cortina with knackered void bushes on top of screwing up the handling and stability. I cant personally understand why someone buys a performance car then mods it so that it degrades the cars performance abilities (each to their own etc) but if form over function is your priority why not go the full hog and stick 19's on the car?

Can & do run 18's( on the rear) for Topspeed runs mate to get the gearing.
Think you may come across things called corners on the road & sometimes you may need to beat a local boy racer off the lights. Spose you can always tell him how good your car looks as he tans your ass. Think you may own the wrong car.

'Jog on' you old codger. Not every car is brought and modified for track use. I still manage to dust any old boy racer from a junction and make him smell my sweet ass! The handling is solid and I have never had any problems, before you decide to diss comments, I advise you to sit back and think first.

Lads learn from their mistakes...and do not want to take advise of men that are the same age as their fathers. Women on the other hand know best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
