Default Crossflow or zetec

HI LADS

Im wanting a 1600 fwd XR2 crossflow for my mk1 fiesta but as you can imagine trying to find an engine is turning out to be a bloody nightmare but this is really the engine i want to build into a 1660 with side draft webers etc etc to releive my youth !

The thing is ive been told silvertop mondeo 2.0 Zetec is a good alternative but what work is needed in fitting this to a MK1 Fiesta and am i going to spend a lot of other money on parts such as loom, mounts gearboxs or do i drive 5 and a half hours each way to pick up MK1 XR2 engine and gearbox its dooing my bloody head in !!!!

The cross flow in my eyes feel is more suited to the old school image of my car whats all your thoughts

The Zetec looks very much at home in the old Fiesta's, but you really can't beat the sound of a screaming crossflow, get one found

I wanted to go zetec and still do but ive got a all singing and dancing cvh now for my escort

To fit a zetec in the mk1 bay both inner wings need modding because you will also need to do a 5 speed conversion

For me it would be a standard st170 on 45mm jenvey throttle bodies with dta management with the vvt properly controlled and will make over 200bhp with an adjustable exhaust cam pully set up correctly

If you do get a crossflow let me know a friend owns wacky performance engines w-p-e and he's just done a 175bhp x/flow on carbs

A standard zetec on throttle bodies makes 170bhp

2lt engine Ł150/200
1800 escort sump and pick up Ł50 max
Throttle bodies kits for mtech Ł1395
Ashley manifold 200 new 70 second hand

Modded mount Ł30

Inner wing mods labour

5speed set up less than Ł200

So a new modern set up with 170bhp will cost around 2k due to needing injection tank lines and pump

To get that from a crossflow you would need well in excess of 5/7k

Go for whatever you want, if your heart is set on a xflow, get one, will you really be happy running a zetec? Or will you constantly have a little niggling in the back of your head wishing you had a xflow?

Lads
Crossflow it is
Have just woken up from a road trip to get mk1 XR2 crossflow with gearbox and purchaced for Ł250 along with pair of early front and rear bumpers.
Left Brighton on Sat afternoon at 5.45 and travelled to liverpool and got home this morning at 5.45am hope it was worth it and im sitting in bed typing this post at 1pm Sunday thinking why am i still pissing about with cars at 47yrs young lol

So engine and gearbox brought after trying to decide which engine to go for so plan is 1700 crossflow, side draft webber 40`s etc etc

Crossflow was correct choice for me so after getting my MK1 Fiesta 3 weeks ago the project and journey can soon start as looking forward to build a road legal track car.

Last of all once again i realise all the lads on passion ford are top top guys and hope i can ask for support along my journey with the fiesta and thank you all for you comments

Marc

Glad you went with the crossflow, it's nice to see people sticking with the old stuff!

Welcome along, I'm sure there's other old codgers on here that know a few things about them

Any pictures of the Fiesta?

Search wacky performance engines And speak to Wayne

He builds lovely crossflows and does not charge the earth like most, he also works in partnership with bez tec ignitions so they will save a couple of hundred there too

He just refreshed my cvh and was a true gent and was very reasonable price wise and defo knows his stuff
