Hi folks,

Just a quick query. I've seen a car that I fancy buying as a runabout, problem is the owner can't find the log book. I've sussed it out and its all legit etc, problem being the car hasn't got any tax on it.

As I'd need to get it taxed for purchase (the only off street parking I've got is my garage and my Merc's in there, don't fancy parking it on the side of the road for a while either!), would a DVLA local office be able to tax it without a log book, or am I screwed until I apply for and receive a new one?

you can get a form from the post office

over here in NI its a V34 (NI) form
fill that in, an take that with you to your tax office when taxing the car, pay the £25 for a new book an hand over the V34 form, an the amount of £££ for 6 or 12 month tax

You can tax it with a V62 logbook application form at your local DVLA head office, but if it still has an owner showing on the car on there system they will not let you do it.

 

Yeah just looked on DVLA website, looks like I will have to apply for the log book and wait for it to arrive before I tax it. Bit of a bummer really, cars a bargain but I can't keep it on the road round here, neighbours are a pain in the arse and would report me for having it (been there done that).
