I have a 53 focus 1.6 with 85k on clock.
Just noticed tonight that when she is warm it miss fires underload ie 3rd gear with foot down
It back fired once as well
I had cam belt changed 300 miles ago, since having it done i havnt floored it as i wanted to bed it in
Could it be connected or is it coincidence?

My dad had a similar problem with his focus, and it turned out to be the speed sensor.
My speedo did act up the other day, it drop to 0 5 times whilest driving

Il get it checked out,
Since iv had the belt done its felt loads better to drive and its been better on fuel
It drives spot on all the time apart from when you put the engine under load i.e if you go up a hill and put your foot down, it just coughs and slutters

Yes your problem sounds like the VSS also, as this is what causes the speedo to do exactly as you describe. As it's also used for fueling calculations it can also cause running problems.

I would go with coil first the wife's mk2 mondeo ran fine till you gave it a bit of stick then after 3000 rpm it would misfire like mad changed the coil and never had another problem

i would go for coil pack and leads first as they fail alot also check the crank breather hose under the inlet manifold as they split and make it run lean
