Well if you don't believe Jimbo maybe you'd like to know that several T34 .63 engines have made more than 400hp on my rollers, the norm is 380 ish but with a mild port , an inlet cam all timed up correctly and a decent build 410hp is achievable.... ASk Dangerous

how can a standard engine with a bd1o standard head 55lb and a .48 do near the same
genuine question ...

i can be shown all the print outs to prove what exactly ! that a .48 will do the same power as a .63 when a 063 struggles to the late 300's or over 400 !!
its very hard to trust what a tuner comes out with as theres more engine that never make the claimed power that do
anyway off to the pub as this is boring now

Does it REALLY matter about pub bullshit figures? It will prob rolling road at around 350BHP on the "best guess" dyno in car, the most important thing is that it goes well in the car, and the fuelling is safe.
I always take any power figure with a 10% bullshit factor to be honest , my old 2wd saff rolling roaded at 369.8 Bhp on a T34.48 & greens, but it did have a ported head, twin 14's, 500 cooler and a deboxed mongoose , went better that a lot of cars claiming 400Bhp on greys etc, but I still think it was 350 at the most, just a dodgy Engine Disadvantages rolling road
People get too upset arguing about Dyno power figures, it is not representative of in car performance due to all of the restrictions & ancillerys etc...

They're good. Only very slightly better than the .48,they're not quite as good as the proper works .55 though but the best mid ground you can get. We stick with .48s as they flow just enough for 380s and are much more responsive than the .63. It makes for the best road engine IMO real sharp round town

If SCS dyno is out why is it always fully booked ? most of the big power YB's have seen Harveys dyno at some time or another and who's engines are still giving solid service after
years of abuse. Again most are 400 hp plus running to around 800 hp, SCS are one of the best tuners of the YB here in the uk and used by many other tuners so what does that tell you ???

Happily retired
Jay probably ate his enemies at school. He walks with a limp because he was shot in a gangland fight. He was an enforcer in a not very nice trade before he decided to clean up his act, hes now a pussycat with a lovely wife & works for X-Sport racing.

Phil,
The BD10s are poor on bigger turbos, because what they gain at the top end, they loose in mid-range power (so don't suit 0.63 a/r turbos). However, on small turbos, where the mid-range loss can be made up by being filled out with BOOOOOOST, (what they were designed for), which is is why they were so popular back in the day. The problem stems from people then thinking they can transfer the same cams into engines with better specs / bigger ports, where the BD10 just doesn't perform (especially with a T4, which needs a much milder cam to bring it on boost). Instead, BD10s were fitted to everything and Harvey was for-ever taking them out of cars and fitting the correct cams for the specs (so often that he had a collection of them bigger than he had standard cams and was using them as doorstops) .
Jay,
Back in the day my Sapphire made 385bhp / 403 lb ft on four GREENS and did 172mph at Brunters in this spec (standard head, cams and on a 0.48 a/r T34), also did 12.64 standing quarter at 115mph (so something for Daniel to aim for ) :
A T34 0.63 a/r with medium port head and high lift cams (so high that the lifters used to last 10k before they'd had the shit kicked out of them ). It was nowhere near as nice to drive as the 0.48 a/r turbo, it ate exhaust wheels and only came into it's own on track (compared to the smaller turbo):
Phil,
If you want to find a conspiracy theory, I'm sure if you look hard enough, you will find one in anything .

my race car is on a .48 , light blues and made 333 bhp on martins RR (with a shite exhaust and intercooler, now replaced with a pro alloy 70mm and mongoose) will it benefit from a .63 and inlet cam as I would really like it up at 380 bhp??
bare in mind it's a race car only with no road use

Worse quality fuel means you cant get away with as much CR though of course ironically, so if the poor modern fuel is working well on similar to your old spec engine but over 8:1, it shows how far wrong your CR was all that time ago I guess Mike, no wonder people like MAD have been making engines so much higher comp for ages now.
