morcheen,
on the dvla site ,on the vehicle search bit ,it comes up with ,first date of reg 1-2-89 , 1597cc engine size, colour blue, date of last v5 issue 11-11-05 .don't know if this helps.
quiet worried now as i have 2 vin plates

Do the number stamped in the floor and the one on the Vin plate match the logbook?
Does the chassis number on the floor look like it was done professionally? I think all Ford numbers would have been punched up from underneath by the date of this car.

Unless they start with something like SABT instead of the usual Ford WW whatever, it doesn't sound like it has been reshelled then.
So far as I can find out, when Ford sells a new shell it has no numbers stamped and the repairer should get a new chassis number from the DVLA - some just reused the original number, but the different stamping should be obvious.
Not entirely how long the current rules have been in play though.
