Default cosworth vs subaru

hi peeps

quick question above 2 cars

saph 4x4 cosworth 320bhp 357lbt

subaru sti 03 plate 352bhp 288lbt

straight drag would there be much in it or would the scooby win easy?

Over a 1/4 mile drag... both cars having a perfect launch/run, I'd actually expect the Saph to edge it.

I would expect the Cossie to take it especially with the torque difference. Scoobies never seem to be quite as quick as they are supposed to be.

If you get to a corner you're pretty fucked though

To be honest... it's very hard to actually predict because there are LOADS of variables which will change the outcome.

That would look like a low torque figure from the Scoob running that power.. I'd be speaking with the mapper... Torque gets you off the line, so with those figures the Cossie would win - assuming the diff lasts

Like will the Cossie make it down the 1/4 mile without breaking down?

How many feet will a 4x4 cos gearbox survive?

I´d say the Scoob as its lighter, plus a decently set up 350 bhp scoob should run high 11's all day long then drive home. Can a saph do that

that saph did it in a similar time recorded by a standard car!

to be fair a 4x4 saph with 350 bhp (in road trim) should be doing the 1/4 in around 12.5 upwards so the 12.2 that the scooby did is still quick!

Saff all day long, their a lot lighter than a scoob. Drag race off the lights then maybe close but the Cossie would pull back past, going from experience.

Fairly sure a Newage Scoob STi would be heavier than a Saph mate?

There's very few 350bhp Imprezas that will do a high 11 second pass on the 1/4 mile mate... in fact, I can't actually think of one that I've heard has done it in the UK, even in a Classic Impreza. There isn't a hope that a genuine 350bhp Newage STi could do high 11s IMO, even reaching mid-12s would be a struggle. That one in the video must have more than 350bhp?!

Cheers,
Grant

Weight difference between a classic Subaru and Sierra would be very little. Both book around 1250kg.

Although the dyno figures dont make sense. The disparity of torque/power of both cars just sounds wrong.
Obviously the numbers are from totally different dynos.

Both cars should probably be mid-high 12's over the 1/4, with a little over 105mph terminals. It would take a very special driver to get either of those into the 11's ( unless on very sticky tyres at a proper drag strip )

all depends on the size of the balls of whoever is driving imo

a few years ago i had a nissan micra hire car 1.0? engine. anyway, i was pushing a porsche boxter around the lanes and he really didnt like it lol. could the muthafukka drive im sure he would have shown me a clean pair of heels... but he didnt lol

anyway, as for the scoob vs cos dbate, the scoob imo. if nothing else but because its 10 or so years newer lol

never even spotted it was a newage car. That's more like 1450kgs

The Cossie should be quicker quite easily. The Subaru will be running 13's at that level

they can both get their power down - it's hardly much for a 4wd to handle, unless they're on snow or ice.

scooby would get the jump on the launch

Having been on the receiving end of some of their work I'd say the dyno figure was more than a smidge optimistic. Apparently my old S2 made 208bhp with only a chip and 15psi. Erm.......

I own both a newage twinscroll sti and a 2wd sierra cosworth both running similar power, I would say scoob would win the race off the line but the sierra defo better when pulling 100+, both are good but newer car is more reliable

both cars were run on dyno dynamics rollers at power engineering
scooby would probabley benefit from a good live mapping session to sort the low torque figure out.

id say the saph depending on 2 of the many factors

if hes willing to launch it properly and risk blowing the box up lmao

also if its a diy 320bhp yb or a professionally built 320 yb

How funny

Launch it properly and hope you dont destroy the box and if not hope the engine holds out

Scooby wins then without having to do a thing

that scooby in the video did a proper launch, the saff looked like it wasnt giving it any or something was wromng wih it ! it even got 15seconds thats dead dead dead slow he cant have been flooring it standard fiestas etc get 15s it must have been fucked or he shitt it on the line! a proper saff vs scooby wouldnt be a race a cossie would kill a scooby. old cars have raw power .. cossies are better geared they make more torque although subarus are nice cars the torque is too low and the gearing is just wrong its geared to run out of puff midrange..i have never got beaten by a scooby in my lifetime!

scoobys are nice cars and that but are no comparison to a yb but saying that I do like fact that a scooby sti comes as std with 280 bhp thats enough for road use but start tuning them then theres problems

Really? In the Impreza Vs Cosworth battle who holds top speed, ¼ mile? Same conditions I’m pretty sure Andy Forrests Scoob wins hands down.

dude compare say a 330bhp scooby and a 330bhp saff cossie the cossie would eat it i say this because the yb makes more torque the gearing is better and HEY the cossie is yet like near 20years old .. why is it that a cossie that is 20 years old STILL eats scoobys. . yes cossies eat boxes etc but so do scoobys. scoobys engines arent that strong either but i admit they look good . iv had a p1 [brothers] and it didnt even beat my escort at 280 bhp now its alot more than that. subarus are a disease now you see them everywhere ! i wouldnt mind one if u give me it free though lol
