Default Hyundai coupe SIII.. S/S & air filter.. very poor MPG?

Went to Uk Exhausts of sheffield and got a custom stainless made and fitted from cat back.. also fitted a cone air filter..

MPG have gone down from 35 to 40ish, to 20 to 25.. bit drastic as I have no real power gains..

Could a remap help?

cheers

as you can see the tail pipes (if you can call them that) are a bit on the large side and a bit too loud.. thinking of taking it back to get smaller welded on..

What engine have you got in there? Where is the filter located in the bay? That is a massive reduction in mpg and might be because your car is running massively rich due to the exhaust and also because the filter maybe drawing in more heat from the engine bay. But does sound strange. Is the exhaust just from the cat?

2.0 16v mate, ive taken off the air box cover, took factory filter out, connected the cone to the air box hose.. the cone filter is sort of sat in the air box without the air box cover on obviously lol( has a cold feed).. the exhaust is from cat back mate..

Had a service. new fluids etc only 26,000 miles on it.. baffles me

Needs the fueling checking as it's getting more air in, more gas out, so management must be wondering what the hell is going on lol...

Are you sure your not just driving it harder listening to the induction grunt or exhaust growl.
Them two mods should not make that much difference to economy.

After you had them fitted I would personally disconnect the battery for a hour or so and reconnect it and let the engine management learn they are there

Not really m8.. altho the air filter does sound nice.. exhaust is a bit on the loud side, so try an keep the revs down anyway

Disconnect the battery as said and then see if it improves. Otherwise things to check are the lambda reading to see how rich it is running.
