We have loads of trannus in our fleet and tbh they hardly ever go wrong.If they can stand up to postmen driving them rhey must be good.Then there is the vauxhall combos....say no more.

Ive driven a few transits but only very briefly apart from being a bit stone age they feel like a pretty solid motor, but ive driven loads of sprinters as i work on merc trucks and vans for a living and i have to say theyre really not what they used to be!
The newest sprinters 59plate onwards are so fragile! The new engine is an absolute joke.....near impossible to diagnose never mind repair and a nightmare to do any sort of work on, injectors knackered after 8000 miles in some cases, eml light most of the time, the engines are so sensitive to any fault, the slightest thing and eml light comes on.....i really couldnt recommend one even if it is in warranty, so transit would get my vote,

not cruise but built in bluetooth with keypad for dialing on the console was a good touch. the limiter was set to the maximum 102mph as it was adjustable in car. it was quick accelerating for a big van, it surprised a few mates and the space in the cab was huge compared to a transit where passengers need to sit with their knees up to their chin .one of our suppliers was telling me their 60 plate 313 merc blew the engine at just over 4000 miles on the clock.

Transits are up there with the best. There are only 3 good vans out there and that's the Sprinter (feel a bit agricultural and cumbersome to drive. 313CDI is utterly gutless so the 311 must be dire) Crafter (same as the Sprinter) and the Transit (suffer EGR problems on the Mk7 but massively more refined than the Mk6 and a lot more complicated. Very thrashable). Everything else is just budget "buy now, pay forever" shite.

Citroen Relays and Peugeot Boxers are powered by the front wheel drive Transit engine which is the only plus point as the previous model engines where utter utter garbage!

I've always had them and there great vans
but now my company use vw transporters and there unreliable uncomfortable piles of shit. :-(

I've driven everything in the transit range - except the 3.2 - and can't beat the mk6 125 and the 140 mk7!

Totally love it and wouldn't want anything else! All the controls are easy and everything seems well thought out and user friendly!

transit all the way, ive had a mk6 from new (7yrs) till last week when someone mothered it sad to see it go.......but now ive just got a mk7 swb 110 lx been in it for two days and im impressed with the power and the controls and only £130 a year tax and lez compliant

imo the best medium size van is the toyota high ace they are not that quick but by far the most reliable
not bad looking, and dont rot seen them do mega milage with no major problems

I had a SWB 2001 transit and i loved it! drove sprinters and vivaro's and transit was definitely the nicest in my opinion

TBH, the transit has been around that long that they have the cab completely sussed out. As with any modern van, the amount of electronics on them is bound to cause problems.
I actually think the latest vivaros with the 115 cdti engine are very nice comfy vans to drive.
T5 transporter is ok, but very basic and harsh engines.
Merc sprinter/vito are both well known high mileage capable vans,and i have owned examples of both with 250k mileages, but have heavy pedals, and not the best seating position.
As many people who drive vans for a living will testify, vans are ok as long as you dont have to pay to fix them!

I dont get why vans have so little power and torque.

1.9 tdi VW vans have 105hp yet designed to haul lots of weight. Cars with same engine - 130/150hp. WTF?

my grandad has a lwb iveco turbo daily that can load 5 ton so its proper big old bastard (its the shape before the newest one) and even though its been chipped, it can hold 97-100mph with 3ton in the back, 105 without

not the comfiest thing ever though, id imagine a new van to be much nicer for a long journey

new iveco's are ment to be twin-turbo am i right?

u just canny beat a tranny van, and my combo was min untilll drove thru a ford, bent conrod ! 1.7 with a belt not chain, but it wasnt really a workhorse more suited to a roll man or paper boy! i find theres plenty room on the dash pass seat and above the roof cloth for paperwork massive door pockets, and never had a drink fall owt yet new clutch thru warenty at 42 thou miles tho plus starter as wen the clutch brakes down it fuks it, and the lead from the battery with the built in fuse!! stilll not put me offf my van, on 68 thou now 54 plate maybe for sale

not sure what the op is getting at realy?????? i wasnt going to post on this thread but transits get my vote every time! not the quickest or the most tarty of vans out there but they are excellent vans, i should know i bought mine brand new in 2003 and ive put a quarter of a million miles on it!!!! still on its original exhaust etc apart from the obvious brake changes and service parts, all its had is 3 clutches (since the dmf to solid fly in 2005) 4 wheel bearings and a vac pump gasket! good value id say.
sprinters are horrible to drive as the gear change is very clunky the vw crafter is shite and flimsy, LDV dont even go there!!! (although they do share engines with the tranny) if i had anything other than a transit id go for an iveco daily these have there faults but there easy to work on and cheap to buy (3rd gen)

in short i have driven every kind of van and the tranny is king imo!

Some of our 59 platers are already pushing 100k

And obviously the more vans there are out there the more people will say "I had one and it was shite" yet we've had about 200 and they've only ever really needed side door handles, the remote keys being buggered and that's about it
We've had loads with spare wheels getting stolen but that's not the vans fault and we've have one that needed a fuel pump and one that needed a wiper stalk but other than the early ones having egr issues they've been spot on really
And I got £107 worth of diseasal into mine one day

I used to work for LDV
LDV Maxus is the biggest piece of crap I have ever worked on.
Its got a crap engine and body work is very thin.
If you shut the door with your hand you end up with a big dent.
Oil coolers, pumps, central locking were all major problems.

Convoys look dated but are normally quite solid.

TDCI engines, I wouldn't touch one.
The amount of problems we had with them I just wouldn't go near one.
All big bucks to replace.

Best one was and still is in my mind, the banana engine.
Go td and your fine, na one is just slow.

Renault dci's always have turbo faults and typical electrical gremlins.
Well any thing french is just crap,

Not had much experience with vauxhalls, cdti's are a worry, hp gone on one are 3 years and 65k on the clock.
1.7 dti - edu problems
2.0 dti - fuel pump issues. £1500 for a recon pump is a joke.
I prefer my old ones,
I've got an escort van and smiley recovery truck.
If I had a newer shape transit I'd put the older td engine in it.

Theres a regular customer of ours at work an international couriers and their 57 plate 313 sprinter is just over 480,000miles and it dont drive bad. Sprinters are very hit and miss, you might get a good one if your lucky!

we have a hire fleet of over 4500 vehicles and transit give the most problems by far
but all vans are getting the same now , there is'nt one that will give no problems
also at the repair centre 8-9 transits come in for every sprinter that appears

A drive the same van, As for traction , what do you expect for rwd and light back end. Traction switched off and am side on happy till it 40 when it turns itself on.

I have a swb mk7 140ps, heated seats, cruise control the lot and its the best god dam workvan out there.I have had vitos and sprinters in the past and the transit still out performs them all.
