mines ok

plus m3s starting at 9k are standerd with high milage

mine is only 56k genuine miles (new engine had 58k when i put it in) plus all the carbon fiber bits and bigger wheels, coilovers etc

this car has alot of advantages over a 9k m3, only disadvantages i see is it isnt as fast... through the corners and on the road there realy isnt much in it..
I wasn't slating your car at all.

I did lol at genuine 56k with a 'new' £500 58k mile engine fitted

I will drive down to you from NE Scotland in a standard M3, race you on any road you like. I will video it and post it up on here and put a poll up saying "Is there much in it?" If the outcome is towards the M3 absolutely smoking your 323 then you pay my petrol, if not I will have wasted alot of petrol trying to proove a point?

Seriously think about what you have said, I have owned nearly every model of E30, E36, E39 going including the M's. I've had E46's, driven plenty of M's and there is no chance on earth a 323 is anywhere remotely near an M3. Fact!

having owned and driven both back to back lots of times... I disagree.

but its all personal taste

Personally I hated the wrasp of an M3. Worst part of a very nice car for me.

Is there any decent exhaust upgrades available that would get rid of it and change the sound???? I have heard a couple on the road and both have been PROPER loud and to be honest would annoy me, i quite like being able to drive it quietly

there are LOADS of decent E46 M3 exhausts available (and lots of shit ones too )

im not a fan of the standard e46 exhaust note either, sounds like the mounts are loose and the exhaust is vibrating

Alot of the guys use the Supersprint rear silencer. You can then go with resonated or non resonated centre sections which drastically change the DB levels. The supersprints are quite expensive though with the rear coming in around the £1400 mark alone.
I have just gone for a simple Scorpion rear silencer (£400) and standard centre section. 98db @ oulton in November so it's not too bad.

Glad it's not just me that hates the rasp, sounds like an xr3i with a hole in the back box!

It does sound like the box is resonating rather than the tone.

who cares what the exhaust sounds like when it's induction sings like a bitch when you stamp on the loud pedal.

oh and.. the 328i vs M3 comment... i mean... really ? i had an E36 328i and attempted to play with an E46 M3 (consider the E36 is a fair wack lighter than the E46) and it quite happily fucked off down the road. pretty sure the 330ci wouldn't stand a chance either, and that has another 40 hp on top of the 328i..

On the flip side of the coin though... have you considered one of THESE 300i'sh hp.. Turbo upgrades fairly easy (probably expensive)

E46 M3 is what... 340hp? but the age of it means it probably isn't making that any more, you have to pay 'm tax' as it's so lovingly called on everything, the servicing is a shit load dearer too

Here's a couple of vids of mine with the Scorpion.
Still has that M3 sound but has lost the tinnyness.

335i's took the biggest hit price wise because of their shit fuel economy... 21mpg around town and 30 if your lucky on the motorway - but by fuck are they fun !!

The one i linked is an '06 reg, but it seems fairly specced up. Its a shit load of car, for under 10k (hence why i mentioned it )
