Default Engine swap

Hi guys,

I need a new engine for my mk3 2001 mondeo 1.8 duratec lx. I need it doing quickly so I want to be able to get the first decent engine for the right price. My question is, what engines will fit with the least amount of labour? Obviously the same 1.8 duratec will be easiest, but if I can't find one, can someone tell me which others?

Much appreciated

No compression in one of the cylinders. I assume that means complete engine swap?

The 2.0l and 1.8 are exactly the same.

I will if I can find one, but if I can't I want to get next best, and was just checking what that would be. I've seen a comment about post 2003 engines with better manifold or something, would this cause a problem, should I avoid?

most 2nd hand engines will come as a bear engine block. the better manifold you are referring to have a improved butterfly flap as they had a tendency to brake and get sucked into the engine.

it may be better/ cheaper to rebuild the engine you have.

I've been told it won't, they could strip it down and it could still be something that can't be fixed, and that's all additional labour I don't want to pay for.

I need it back on the road within days, well ASAP anyway, I don't have the time to do it myself, even if I knew how and had the tools!
