Default Tvr Vs my escort??

Hi the owner of my gym has a 1998 Tvr cerbera and one of the lads going to the gym told him about my car and now he is saying his car will easy beat mine but i don't know if it will. I know they will be a fast car but mine isnt to bad. I don't know how much bhp they have got but he said they have 400 bhp and is a light car. Are these cars any good before i put my money down.

My car- escort rs turbo 2.1 zvh 335bhp@21psi atm till i sort my boost proplem then will be 2bar but am hopping for more
Gym owner-1998 cerbera and i don't know if its 400bhp

i cant comment on what would be the outcome as iv never been in a 335bhp rst but i have been in quite a few diff models of tvr and they are very quick and seem relentless.

Depends what engine but generally they are all quick. Weigh around 1100kg and RWD so can actually put some power down.

I certainly wouldn't want to bet money!

have a look on you tube from one of clarksons videos theres a drag race between loads of high performance cars including 911 turbo aston martin about ten in total in a 1mile drag race and the tvr smashes the lot so be wise with ur cash think you gonna lose it.some thing like a mile from start in about 29 seconds

Wondering whos the red RS Turbo I was seeing about

You must be on about the gym at the Harbour - carbon wrapped isnt it with over the top stripes?

Should be an interesting one - not sure what engine is in the Cerbera though

Get some pics up of your car mate! To be honest it all depends on what happens on the day. The guy your racing could slip up miss a gear and you could take him OR he could just leave you at the lights lol. Would be a good race though. Keep it on a track like santa pod, so that way you know that there's no messing around if you do decide to put serious money on it.

No mate not that often - got a boring Nissan Note for the daily. Your car looks immaculate and standard - didnt realise it packed such a punch

TVR will run a 12 flat quarter I would think, and your car wont.

He will win probably.

If its on the road where fwd is even more of a disadvantage due to less grip, i'd be even more confident in the TVR

I havent put my money on it yet but i think am going to give it a go anyway. just means now il have to look at my boost problem to get some more bhp and hope my gearbox holds out.

what sort of teminal would the tvr pull?

race it from a rolling start so that you have a chance at putting the power down.
a escort with that power should pull 115-120 i would think

could be all about wether each car can put the power down. traction will be the factor. your rst is a seriously powerful car given the low weight, i dont know what it weighs compared to the cebera. hp wise i think it will be quite close considering hot hatch vs supercar. just do it for a small amount of money for the craic. do NOT do a tacky hollywood car movie type ''winner takes keys'' style bet!! lol i hope your rst kicks arse, purely coz the gym owner is probably a competitive, borderline arrogant/showoff. fast fords ftw

TBH even with more boost to see you running closer to 350bhp even, more boost is probably the last thing you would want on a standing start as you will more than likely be spinning up the entire rev range through 1st and good majority of 2nd. Rolling is a different story. See if you can grab his reg and find out which engine variant it is. I think you'd be struggling against even the 4.0. Have to pray he can't launch for shit.

I don't know the specifics of each model of cerbera but my mate had one that was ex tvr MD owned, the previous owner had run it at Brunters and allegedly had a record of it at over 200mph. I'd have my money on the TVR, having said that though his spent more time at the garage than on his drive and when it was home the battery was flat and couldn't get into it easily! So it might not even make it there or complete the run without breaking down!. Would love to see the run too! Make sure someones got a video cam to hand
When it was running it was immense.

If true, it would need two turbos and at least 650 brake....

If it's a standing start you're screwed mate as Escorts are shite at putting the power down, I love mine to bits but it's the truth

Rolling start from say 50 it might be interesting as my 260bhp Escort has gained many scalps of some quick cars.

That was Fighting Torque 2009. The TVR was a 2002 plate I believe. Mine was circa 550 brake, still on a low boost map. The TVR driver (Neil) gave it every thing off the line thinking we were racing. I just pulled away from the line and waited for the boost to build up and steadily drove on. It was just my shake down run, as at the two previous events I took part in I had major blow ups at each of them (Performance Ford Daddy Thrash 2005 & 2006)so as we were getting to the finish line I gave it every thing and sailed past then came off the throttle and coasted

the other one is in the mid 12s with a terminal of 109 and the tuscan pulled a 115 terminal .

so if his is anything like them i would put my money on you from a rolling start
