depends on colour mate, I have a black car and like to use poor boys black hole as it is designed for darker cars, and doesnt show up all of the stone chips. It is also very very easy to apply and buff off. Price is good to.
Remember, after polishing, you should be waxing or using a sealant to protect the paint as the polish is cleaning, the wax/sealant is protecting.
detailersworld is a good site to nose around to see what people use, and the results.
Last weekend I did a good clean on mine
rinsed
snow foamed (not essential)
rinsed,
shampood with a mit (less likely to cause swirls)
used tar spot remover to get rid of any nasties
claybarred the car to remove ground in shite - essential
rinsed and patted dry
polished
waxed
Will now be able to wash and wax for a few months till i do it all again.

i used that on my puma and cmax, both dark coloured cars. looked fucking mint after that and a wax.
the next time i washed them tho they looked fucking awful!
could see all the swirl marks and both cars looked very dull.
the SRP has chalk as a filler, and the next time you wash, you wash the chalk off, so you can see all the swirls and it dulls the paint.
i done both just before xmas with dodo juice shampoo, and dodo juice blue velvet wax, they both looked good after that. i think i need to mop them both tho to get the best look as you can still see some swirls.
i just dont get the time to spend on them tho

poorboys balck hole is a glaze not a polish, but is very good similar to ag ultra deep shine but easier on/off and better results, obviously needs a wax/sealant after, works very well on my tungsten grey r5gtt.
another good one that iv seen but not tried yet is chemical guys black light

There has been some very good results (hand polishing) with G-Techniques range of polishes. I do own some but not used it yet so cant comment but i have seen a good video on YT being used and seems extremely good. I,m always polishing by machine and some of the polishes used aren,t suitable by hand although i can recommend Menzerna 203s with a good hand applicator with brilliant results. After polishing especially on darker cars i now use Poorboys creme -z its a glaze known as a cleaner glaze and filler . I find it so much nicer to use than 'black hole' although that is superb also. A cheap decent wax and that will aid looks further is PB Nattys wax (blue) they do a red one too for other colour types but you could use them on any colour.

poorboys blackhole, autoglym srp and dodo lime prime are not polishes
blackholes a glaze, srp is full of fillers and has very little to no correction and lime prime is a pre wax cleanser with mild abrasives
if your want an easy to use real polish use 3m or menzerna but will need to use a machine polisher.youll get very little correction by hand
if your just looking to make it look good and hide and swirls/marring then use BH or SRP followed by a good wax
