Default Square Beams

I have an oppotunity to produce some new square beams...would anybody be interested in them?

They would work out about £400.00 i'll try and post a piccy of the item we have to copy off...these will be pukka items...made from decent material...

Best regards

Ian

i may be wrong....i'm sure i'll be corrected but i thought you could run the square beam with modified steel arms....rose jointed on the outer link for track...inner for the camber adjustment....it's a long time since I set a car up with either this or the mag arm setup but i'm sure its possible....the square beam and mag/steel arm setup helps reduce bumpsteer....

yeah they can be run on modded steel arms, but not standard items. Hence why it would be more helpful if it had arms aswell.

What are you hoping to achieve by running a square beam?

Just out of interest? over a round type beam.

In my limited experience , and i only tried this once ! The square GpA Tarmac beam ( red ) and steel modded rear arms mean problems with driveshafts, no-one i know runs this configuration , although loads of people use a std round rear beam and mag rear arms , though you should be aware of this ! Also square beams bolt up in a completely different way , the eye bushes are designed to be solid and there is no top mount on the diffs , this means GpN or GpA diff mounts are essential .
My tuppence worth anyway !
cheers

I don't run a square beam I run a cradle and lateral links....as the post says I have a customer who wants a square beam off me...which I have....I have a fabrication shop in which I was going to reproduce 10 square beams to sell if there was enough interest...hence the post...I havn't got any arms...mag arms as you know are getting thin on the ground...the square beam mounting points are different from the tubular version..this mod to the mounting points improves bumpsteer...not an issue if you are on a nice flat track so i take your point about what I am trying to acheive...nothing...I don't have the of masive bumpsteer...i was merely trying to gauge if it would be a worthwhile exercise producing 10..or not and having it tied up in my workshop....

Regards

Ian

Fair point tony that's the answer I was after....is there a demand....no....there is an issue with the driveshaft no....we run equal lengths on both sides of our car with a 20mm spacer on the o/s....there are several levels of beam blue, red and i think black....I realise the square beam bolts up differently...i have never come across a grp'n' diff mount....that would be a standardish item...the grp'a' rear diff mount uses the bush arrangement similar to the proper gearbox mount or a solid back plate mounted through bosses onto the diff plate attached to the cage....ive built quite a few grp'n' and grp'a' cars...and wrc escorts.....

I will sell the beam I have....

Best regards

Ian

i have a grp N diff mount. Kindly spotted out by tony one day, looks almost identical to a standard item but has alot more rubber surrounding it and less hoses.

Part number is: 9094679

Have you got any pictures of your reat set-up sib?

As im currently in limbo as to what to do with the rear of mine.

I'm not going to argue about grp'n' items....it's a whole subject itself.....we have the wrc setup on the rear of our car....but even this had to be tweeked to acheive 0 bumpsteer....if i was building a race car as you..i'd try and ditch the tube beam....go square and a pair of mag arms....the main reason for building the wrc car was to save all the weight in the back end and improve the car over the fast bumpy stuff...

I never actually said it would be a problem running a conventional beam with modified pick-up points...the point of the exercise was to gauge demand.....the majority seem to favour a modified convential beam....i was suggesting offering a copy of the genuine ford motorsport part...there s no deman...to suggest its a rip off is a little harsh...all items we produce for competion cars are meticulously engineered and the beams would have been laser cut and tig welded together as the originals were....I am in an engineering environment professionally and to carry out construction of the beam alone would require at least 1 man day....

As I said eailier...no demand...no problem...

Kind regards

Ian

Ian,

Remember, there's only a select few on here who even know what square beams are.............. so I don't think the demand will be huge.

By the way, any chance of some pics of your car?

But unsure whether to commit to it yet

martin, if you're going to all of the trouble to fabricate new beams and arms, why stick with the semi trailing arm principle? why not fabricate a double wishbone arrangement that gives better geometery control?
