mk4 golf centre section exhaust rubbers cable tied onto the car instead of fitting Ł2.50 replacements, also a pair of tights over the MAF because the K&N had fallen off and the previous owner couldn't be arsed fitting the original airbox back on...

fibreglassed rear arches where they had rotted through, they weren't holding anything together.
both rears in the same condition, easily fixed with some fresh metal and welder, really surprised they ever passed a single MOT like that.

worked at a group N evo 9 last week which had the rear chamber shims in upside down and bonnet pins holding the sump guard on. Glad i didn't take it for a test run before checking it on the lift.

I remember that find, we were both just looking at each other as I held the cable

Not my own but a friends XR2i had awful bass with a good amp and chunky cable. Traced everything back and found the power cable twisted into the cig lighter wiring and the fuse replaced with a paperclip. WTF!

wiring on current car.

Had 3 breakdowns because of it, 1st wiring to fuel pump was shite killing fuel pump, wiring to battery in boot vastly underrated causing starting and earth issues, and 3rd wiring to engine loom was dodgy causing ecu to trip out.

evo i have now know, someone had wired in a rear fog into the reverse light on a seperate switch even though it has a rear fog switch and fog lights but they were really dim

other day i thought id fix it found out some muppet had wedge twin filament bulbs into a single filamnet holder hence the fog lights were not bright, fixed that and had to rewire the bodge they made of the revrse light so i had 2 revrse lights again

oh and done a clutch on a zetec conversion mk4 escort only to find someone had ground the clutch bolt heads in half

Years ago (20+) I bought a 1275GT Mini, it had a pair of mole-grips in place of one of the front brake calipers. Another Mini had a floor that light shone through on a sunny day as it was all fibreglass resin with hardly and glass in it. I bought an XR3i that the gearbox had supposedly been rebuilt, I think by rebuilt he meant he threw all the bits back in the box as it only made it 50 yards before it locked solid. A mates Fiesta RS1800 had the cheapest thinnest speaker wire running the main beam circuit on the headlights.

Nearly bought an XR2 turbo with THIN speaker wire running the fuel pump, running the old 3 wire trick too.

Heard of someone buying a car and both rear brake lines were crimped shut with mole grips.

on one of my mk1 fiestas, i started scrapping the old paint and filler off the rear part of the sill to find that its shiny blue, instead of red doesnt even look like a ford colour! proper shit

and in the same car, it had a replacement floorpan before... which also looked like it was from a different car the car is full of bodges and is rusty as fook!

although not my cars, my dad was in a garage once and saw a transit come in for an m.o.t repair to the sill.... it was stuffed with a rolled up newspaper and covered in filler

i also remember a kid at my college that tried to repair a dent in his door with paper, super glue and spray paint... dick

my grandads conti gt until recently had bodged wires on the pedal box

worst i have seen was one of those KA convertable things, somebird had bought it from some blokes in London and at first glance it was pretty.

But, you soon spotted the bad spraywork, then noticed every gap was way out, so bad that you could put your fingers into the gaps!! Was completely twisted and by far the worst car I have ever seen, came into my mates garage as the drive shaft has fell out!

He got her dad down and showed him how bad it was, suggested she either take it back but this was unlikely to happen, or scrap it as it was too dangerous to dangerous to drive.

then sprayed it over to the same sort of colour as the car

erm, expandy foam covered with duck tape and then under sealed repaired sill

battery tray held on with seam sealer in a rst

r5 gtt fuel filter replaced with a one way valve. gave enough fuel to run and idle but put your foot dowbn and nothing, took 3 months to find the fault.

mate bought a xr4i years ago that had "competition mounts" that turned out to be bolts with washers between cross member and engine. also had had "exstensive welding" for the mot done but turned out to be card board and seam sealer then undersealed underneath.

Thrust washers fitted the wrong way round on a virtually new block and crank. fortunately spotted it whilst changing valve stem seals. Cost me a new crank but could have been worse.

Me doing them

Bought a mk1 xr2 many moons ago,,an "original" early 90's cut/shut...A propper one too lol..

Had cut the rear chassis legs..put a splice in em and slid em over what was left of the rotten bits, then fibreglassed them together. The rest was held together with just gob and paper,,horrific tack welds that were skimmed over...no drivers footwell,,or inner sill, A pillar made of gob from pins down and the rest was just an absolute Horror the more i dug the more i felt sick..Although it Had some beautiful original parts on it that had strangely remained perfect.
It was subsequently stripped an Crushed in 4hrs, after spending a day going through all its charms first though.

My bro's 5 with upside down HG was a cracker too.

Have simply seen to many to list..and tbh i love finding them, like a challenge, and to see just how much effort people go to when bodging a simple job, but also makes me appreciate what little i do know..and one things for sure i can do better than that..They just makes me grin at the workmanship..a shit job should always be done propper imop.

My absolute worst find was an old MAN tractor unit with literally no pads in the ns side front caliper, that REALLY boiled my piss, total CUNTS for risking that

I had an XR3i, noticed some wiring hanging down by the fuel pump. Turns out it had been previously cut, was twiddled together and taped to the bottom of the fuel tank. Needless to say that was replaced very quickly!
