Default Intercooler, whats best? Bar and plate or tube and fin?

As titled. I'm building a high power engine inc the use of a GT35 pushing up to 2 bar. What intercooler type would suit best, bar and plate or tube and fin?
Any ideas would be of help

Wrong question ask about flow & hence less loss of horsepower.

Mine shows +7 on ambient coping with 840bhp on a GT42 @ 2.8bar. The bigger is better nonsense dont apply to intercoolers its efficiency that counts. Most fit an intercooler the size of a super nova & then can only get 50% airflow to it. Design your intercooler so that it can get as near as possible to 100% airflow so smaller & a lot thicker helps. Have your inlet pipes so that it uses 100% of the area of cooling not as we see on the majority entering in the side or back.

This cooler

mounted like this gives the best results ive come across.

Realistically is there a point in me changing my genuine RS 500 one? I'm on a t34 and never really plan to have more than 450bhp in the future?

Cheers Rod. I have an airtec front mount on my Foc RS at the moment, I was wondering if it was man enough for the job. I read alot about people increasing the pipework diameters to increase the flow and cfm's. I was considering changing the end caps to suit 3" pipework purely because I have a 3" t/body. Whats your thoughts? I know you know youre onions

Suspect the answer to that would be no.

Ive just had a good look at my cooler and I reckon that changing the inlet and outlet to 3" then fitting scoops on it to channel the air would be my best option. Most of the performance coolers are using some sort of air guiding fins around them.

I have just got mine back from Spec-R, it was modified to fit a Hart Inlet and whilst it was there i also had the outlet increased from 63mm to 70mm to fit my TB.
Not yet refitted and tested yet.

Thanks again Steve. It's all starting to make sense now. Increase flow and efficiency and reduce restrictions including changes of diameter in pipework to reduce friction and turbulence

The Airtec intercooler has very narrow outlets, the tubes are very thick. I did have one before my spec-r and i changed the tube sizes, although i still stayed with 63mm OD the ID of the pipes increased by about 6mm.

Yeah Ive just checked that. I reckon I'm going to stick with the Airtec cooler and just increase the Id of the pipework to 76mm. That combined with some fins to channel the air through the core should give me a good result. If not I'll have to sit down with the spec r boys
