Default Overpriced MK4 Estate?

What are you actually getting for your 3300 quid? Budget show cage is sold and most of the audio is sold? Bit of chrome under the bonnet doesnt add hundreds does it ???

New owner needs to get the V5 sorted, with the correct engine size.

He's been trying to sell it for ages. Too much for what it is. At the end of the day that's good genuine RS Turbo money.

Nice little car, but dreaming on the price IMO. If it was totally mint it would still be over the odds, but with a smoking engine...

Does anybody remember that Mk3 Escort with hideous arches on it? He wanted 5k!!!!

It wasn't an RS and apart from being in a slightly tidy condition it had absolutly nothing going for it. I'm sure if I'm remembering rightly he said the arches cost x-thousand pounds to put on..... like that justified the brain numbing price he was asking!

People with such low IQ's should not be allowed to drive

If I wanted to go fast I'd probably buy a Corsa over an Escort anyway, but thanks for the tip.

I don't think the fact you can't buy one new gives you licence to make a ridiculous price up.

estates are hard to come by nowdays as they are but price is way over priced tbh, looks tidy though

last week there was a one owner mk3 escort estate on ebay done 12k from new and was on 1300 with no bids forgot to watch it though to see what it made id like an estate but id rather build one myself as the money that is you can do it easily

Plenty people do it..... I don't myself but doesn't bother me. Alot of people get a hardon over it. People who do this will never claim off there own insurance for the car for the obvious reason. And if they hit you there insurance can still pay out if they don't claim on there own car.

I like the look of the kombi. Worth 3k at a push with everything sorted.

I have no doubt its a nice car, im just saying that as mentioned, this is prices that youd pay for a fairly clean, well sorted series 2, which lets face it, are always going to be worth more money. I just couldnt see where the money was going, fair enough if it was zetec turbo, or whatever but its just a fairly standard mfi lump....just my opinion.

No one's being a bitch. The comments about the car are all positive - the only negative comments refer to the price, which in most people's opinion is too steep. Seeing as it's a forum for Ford enthusiasts, we're the market the car's aimed at surely?

You may get lucky and get the asking price, but it won't be a quick sale.

Tis' a nice looking car though.

I'm guessing you're a bird of or off Ox-Ford Owners Club. General rule of thumb with modified motors is you don't get back what you put in. Sour truth.

I really like it but wouldn't pay a penny over 2k for it and I'd want the smoking sorted properly.

Dreaming with the asking price, that would get you a nice tidy (non smoking) genuine RS Turbo that will always be worth more and retain its value. FACT

It's not really a fault of the seller just that the Market for anything modified ford etc right now has gone silly, there was a boy on here trying to sell a pretty boggo xr3i for stupid money, they were pence back in the day driven by dolescum and chavs.

I was looking last year at the prices of mint/well modified golf mk1 cabriolets (cos I have one!!!) and they've gone silly, shove a 1.8t in it and their fetching £5000 upwards.
Ludicrous.

I know!!! A local fella is trying to sell a 91 Golf GTi 16v with a 1.9 GT TDi Anniversary 150ps engine and 6spd box, with a revo map. 204bhp it made on the rollers. But is it worth £6000??? Ehhh no its a fucking parts bin!!!

I agree that some prices are just plain stupid. A fucking bog standard sapphire sierra was the absolute shite on the shoe about 10 years ago....now some drug fuelled idiots slap on a cosworth kit, advertise them as "cossy reps" (spelling was deliberately done like that) and ask £2,500!!! TWO AND A HALF FUCKING GRAND??????? About 10 years ago, £2,500 got you a clean sierra cosworth AND a half decent mk2 escort RS2000!

Must be something with VWs! My mate bought a 2000 'X' Plate MK4 Golf 1.8t 3 door, it had over 100k on the clock, and it had 220 brake with bbs wheels, and he paid nearly 3300 quid for it!!!!!!!!!! I could not believe it! Whats a normal one worth ? 1k-1.5k??? The only thing it had going for it was the paint was mint and it had leather???

sadly this is the problem with the moddified car/classic car scene, it takes one numpty to over price there car and everyone recons theres is worth that or more. i can under stand a price rise but most dont rise they rocket, orions 18 months ago still hovering round £500 mark for good useable ones then some numpty put a low miler up for £3k and everyone decided theres was worth silly money, xr2's and xr3's went the same way, as i say i can understand a rise but not the hike they all got. i mean 15k for a mk1 rs2k or 25k for a rs16i in my eyes is obscene. this estate in question is nice, well modded estate but easy 1500 over priced even with a non smokey engine. its an estate, its not an rs, its nothing special, there getting rarer yes but so are things like clio 1.8 16v's, mk3 astra gsi's, mk5 xr3i's, etc... but they havent got the same huge price tags. VW's are getting stupid aswell, mk2 golfs arent rare there still plenty about but again a few people started over pricing theirs and everyone followed suit. These cars will become out of rearch for alot of people soon due there "values" cause people cant afford to spend that sort of money on cars when they cant afford to live. I am in that boat in all honesty, cars that i use to have all the time and love i can no longer afford because my cost of living has gone up.

^^^ Nail on the head!!! But as you say, some car's don't get the credit they deserve - but that is mainly down to badge snobbery and snobby attitude's. Clio 16v's where actually the beginning of the high powered, lowest model in the range n/a hot hatches! And people just think "pfft french shite". But all of a sudden Clio 172/182's got a good rep - even though they have the same horrendous electrical trait as an arse shape megane. But on the hole they are still classed as shite!!

I remember literally about 8 yrs ago, inwas getting slated/mocked for deiving a 1.1c mk1 golf gti rep!! Now there is silly wee fucker's who would suck my cock in order to get a drive in it! Why is that!?? The fucking snobbish "euro scene" and their stuck up owner's!! They are a prime example of bumping the price up!!

Of the last 10 yrs the main reason in the hike of price's is the greed of some people when the housing boom went out of hand. Wee jimmy down the road had a mint mk2 escort rs2000 and wanted a good £4000 for it. Then sammy up the road seen this advertised and thought his rot box was worth £3000....and then came along mr money bag's who told mr minter than his rs2k was £1000 overpriced compared to the £3000 rot box! So then the story went along until proper minter owner's believed their minter was worth twice the £3000 rot box, so then rot boxes went up in price again. So this eventually went ob until the rotten (and frankly unwanted 4drs) started being advertised at £3000+ and genuine original minters where £15,000+!!!

and of course the 80s kid's caught on the this and with the same formula....1980s escort rs' are £2,000+ and cossies are £5,000+!!

also another big factor is the governments "scrappage scheme". Some car's started getting so scarce, that owner's of existing model's started being greedy on the price!! And voila....that is a theory in why locally a guy is wanting £2,000 for a 41,000 mile Escort Ecilipse and why some idiot on ebay want's £24,000 for a 34,000 mile Escort Cosworth and another idiot want's £9,500 for a fucked/rolled Escort Cosworth Monte Carlo!

If people had the same sense of reality and knew their boundarie's....there would be no one in their right mind giving any more than £5000 for a 15 yr old+ Ford Escort - no matter what the circumstance's are!!
