It's getting the wiring in with a modern diesel that's the problem.

But for cheap fun you a want the engine out of a 325 tds. Early e36 dont have coded pumps and are good for 250 bhp all day long.

Both will go straight in. Or a nice modern alternative would be a police spec mv6 omega set up. 3.2 quad cam.

I would be looking towards a landrover for a diesel lump.

A Td5 would be a brilliant conversion and will make 190+ with mods. Failing that a 200/300 tdi will make 150+ with tweaks to the pump and a good cooler.

Gavin.

You'd want a automatics rear diff to keep the ratio up though. Due to loosing the rev range.

this sounds like a plan seems to be quite a cheap option plus getting a maunal box the fits straight away seems good

what would be involved in upping the bhp what sort of cost ???

the big v8 diesels sound nice but i guess they would be big money

petrol v6 would be ok but i thought diesel would make a change

335/535D running gear would be awesome for power, but I would think about a passat 4 motion TDI running gear, if you could pick up the V6 one it would make a cool pick up.

Be careful of low emission zone's with these as u can't go near heathrow or London hence why people are coverting p100s to petrol
