All very interesting reading this, suprising how a little hatchback like a tigra or a civic is capable of such a speed.

interesting read!!

dannys new car is not far off finished now i dont think,
and my GOD andys car is a definate no no for road use now isnt it!!! lol

i had 545bhp in my mk1 focus RS, i dont have a speedo, but was revving it to 7500 rpm, on 225/40/18 tyres, and ive hit the limiter in 5th coming out of london on a private M1 motorway

i didnt even realise what gear i was in, as people with big power know, once your on it, your in 5th before you realise whats happening most of the time,
anyway i dont have a speedo, but i presume its around 180 ish

my inner arch liners peeled out too!!

new oil pump and more power soon, and revving to 8200... see what happens

whats the focus rs like at very high speed, was the front still planted or was it trying to lift, is the shape good for the magic 200 with the right power.

Ford fair only this year, got a busy year lol, twins end of this month, and house conversion for extra bedroom, converting garage to a play room, and make new garage in garden, lol

Performance ford feature at brunters, with timing gear but wrc kit may hinder aerodynamics for top speed :/

cant argue that ians work is second to none, he has worked our head and cams, still on single springs with shims though.

I used the puggy springs with no shims,
I know its not a bodge but i didnt want shims which is why i went for the double conversion,

For next year i may get another head and go full bore on it,
Bigger valves, stainless valves, bigger bucket from vauxhall and run some 10.5 or 11mm cams

hi mate not that iam being funny or anything but iam running a ian howell big valve head , but decided to stay on standard hydraulic followers and a ian inlet cam , running a area six inlet , x4 625cc injectors , big throttle body , tubular manifold , external wastegate etc etc running a t61 turbo and at 30 psi it did 522bhp on scs engine dyno .
my question is where do you get your horses from? and is your rolling road reliable and was your power figures corrected , if it is then thats one cracking engine

cheers paul

If yours was on scs engine dyno then that is a propper 522 engine!
Mine was in car on a dastek rolling road and i dont take it as gospel But there the firgures we got after corrections and running in 4th gear,

I am on 850 injectors and they were at there limits,

respect then mate , i maxed out my 625cc injectors , they were at 95% duty so if your maxing out 850cc then your figures must be close to the rolling road figures.

i believe that paul johnson is still on hydraulic but they are the 32mm ones that requires the cylinder head to be machined out but this lets you run a more aggresive cam profiles , i was limited to cam choice .
still great to see these engines evolving

cheers paul

you top speed boys, i take my hat off to you. the amount of engineering/time and r n d that must goes into proppeling a fwd car to thick end of 180mph is enormous i imigine. that tigra looks the buisness.

I agree great to see a bit of rivalry, it will push the boundaries for sure.
With 580bhp & correct gearing that could see a the first circa 190mph fwd Ford .

gearing is somthing i know little about in depth,
but ive inquire with tractive about a complete replacment box and they dont have anything that will do so dont know how to go about the gearing tbh. they say the 6 speed replacment is not strong enough and there 5 speed will take the power but wont have the right FD to achive 175

dont want quaiffe gearset as it wouldnt last 5 mins with 500lbs going through it,

I know its not all about power, but previous threads last year on here. A lot of people were saying how much better the tigra was than the fiesta for putting power down because tigras with similar power to fiestas seem to run the quarter a couple of seconds faster than a fezza.

What power are ^^ these two fezzas runing at in comparsion to the tigra??
I've nothing against tigras/vauxhalls but not many put their faith in fords. lol

When it comes to 1/4 miles alone i think the vauxhalls are better because of gear ratios, not because of the power,

A friend of mine has a 450 bhp astra, i had 545 at the time, he coul pull away untill i was on boost in third and i foooked off as power became the main ingrediant,

Im 470hp at best. I think its more down to the select few that are willing to chuck thousands and thousands and are 100% committed to 1/4mile.

In the Ford world there aren't that many willing to do this.
Yes there are lots that spend the money but they are not 100% committed to rolling up to Santa Pod every month to better the times.
Then back to the garage to change spec or repair and back again...
Cars are capable of the times but as we all know its not as simple as having the spec and turning up!!!
Its more to do with the experience and the lessons learnt each time to progress!!

i think specky tigra was running 700bhp+ and put the power down very well , there is a fiesta in europe that is quicker or very similar , i think he was running around 650bhp when he beat his own record 9.3 @ 151mph , what i will say is that these cars are out and out drag cars and thats it , luca's car to me is a more around car built for track , drag and alot of the cars mentioned above are the same

cheers paul

for some reason the vauxhall chassis seems to handle the low down power and gets off the line much better than most fwd fords
