Think you've hit the nail on the head there! 
A lad tried to 'race' (I use that term loosely as a horse and cart would have given him a run for his money) me up a dual carriageway (up to 70 officer) in one of those mg zr things, gave it the big 'un, and even me in my little 100bhp fiesta pulled away from him, and after 2 roundabouts, he was no where to be seen.
For some reason all the owners of them round here think they're the bollocks, all young lads that think they've got the fastest car in the world, really is strange. Gets on my tits when I'm sitting at 30 in a 30 and they feel the need to sit up my arse trying to egg me on! Although, granted that's not just mg drivers lol.

Also i must be the only owner who knows there shit and slow! Mind you mine will sit at 90 mph all day long at about 5-6k revs
I say that like its a good thing lol.

prob with this version of the k series is it has the same head/inlet/throttle bodie and airbox as the 105bhp 1.4 version which in my eyes cant do much for performance.
tbh i wouldnt bother wasting any money on trying to get more outta this engine as it costs alot for not very much in gains.
either drop a t series in there or save up for something what is already nippy out the box eg the 172 you mention
