urgent just broke down, manifold glowing red and no clutch
hi all please help. Was driving along in 5th put my foot down slightly and sounded like i had full boost like in 5th gear.
Then booted it a bit and had no clutch, think its fucked as cant select gears.
Opened up bonnet while waiting for aa and manifold behind turbo was glowing red. Engine sounds fine though. Any ideas? I know clutch is fucked and engine sounds sweet still but why would it glow bright red, i think it slightly melted red pipe too.
Its a 2wd cossie btw

Not that i know of. The only thing i changed was put a 500 cooler in and alloy radiator, with its own relay direct to battery but thats the front end so cant think of what could be rubbing it or why it was glowing

would it fuck turbo? It was still spinning fine. In fact i think i had to much boost in 5th as i couldnt get traction or would that have something to do with clutch fucking up?

check to see if the cable is touching the exhaust manifold anywhere mate and it sounds like cable to me but you may have shredded the clutch friction plate in the process

i seemed to get no traction when i feathered the throttle, when i booted it though i got traction eventually. Its only stage one but felt like to much boost in one go rather than steady supply if that makes sense

Vacume pipe popped off so running unlimited boost ?? as to much boost with wrong map will make it glow like a mother f**ker
That will also make the clutch cable die due to the heat

This might be completely irrelevant as i don't own a cossie but in fast ford a couple of months ago (the feature comparing track and road escorts) they were saying that because the timing was two advanced it was sending the combustion through the exhaust ports, reducing power and making the manifold glow

The clutch cable runs alongside the turbo, normally there isn't a problem, assuming you have the heatshield in place and it's in good order?
What do you define by "No clutch", if the cables gone you will know as there will be no resistance on the pedal what so ever and it will go straight to the floor?
To answer your question there is nothing you can do until you get another cable, at least under the cars own steam (Pardon the pun), UNLESS you are near home and not near busy roads etc you can try starting the car in gear and driving it home slowly (As obviously your stuck in that one low gear) but I woulden't advise unless desperate and distance and conditions allow!

weather is alot colder now at night so the boost ur running will be more punchy and youve also added a bigger cooler! get a full 6 plate kit with a standard cover as that will do up to stage 3 imo!

Did I catch ya right, stage one and you couldn't get traction in fifth gear on boost (over 3k .) What speed was this at ...?..
What power you imagine you have, what tyres you running more importantly......

Yeah clearly this lad doesn't know to much about his car, that's why he's asked on here.
We are all here to help .
If he has never experienced a clutch slipping before he wouldn't know what it feels like. So taking the piss ain't really needed.

clutch slip- revs rise rapidly but not an increase in speed.
Wheel spining while on the move- revs rise quickly but no increase in speed
Whats the fucking difference
And as said above why would i know its clutch slip if i've never had a car with that problem!
