Default Just bought a focus rs, VERY DISSAPOINTED!!

I've just bought a focus rs from EVAN HALSHAW ford dealers in blackpool, and in the cold light of day when I've got it home it's clear that the car has had paint on the rear quarter, boot and also at the front!! also it has had two new tryes fitted at the rear which are called "taya"? I paid £18999 for the car which is over priced for a car with 17000miles on it, but the reason I did was becuase they are a ford dealer and I thought that i would have peace of mind.

The question I'm asking is do you think that I'm being picky? I feel like trying to get my money back but i don't think that I've got a leg to stand on? if anyone can offer some advice i would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Anthony.

P.S. just so you know I do love the car in every other respect!!

Supposed to be a decent place to buy cars from too.

Really not on with having damage like that.

Being a trader they must tell you about damage occured to the car, when being sold private they don't have to tell you.

Surley you have a time bracket to hand it back no......

you're right maybe I should have done more checks than i did, but at the end of the day I am not an expert in cars, it's only today when a friend pointed this out to me that i noticed, and I trusted the fact that they are a ford main dealer and thought that they had to work to a certain quality level? does the fact that they are a ford dealer not count for anything?

Dunno where you got that idea from, it's simply not true

The dealers are under no legal obligation to tell you unless its recorded on any lists that would come up when you ran an HPi or Experian check anyway [your insurer would have done this so don't worry about it]

And besides, half the numpty sales people that work at main dealers [not including Cossienuts in this ] wouldn't have a fookin clue if a car had been painted or not

Gotta agree with Tiff

You won't have any remittance until you inform the dealer of what you consider to be the problem and give them a chance to sort it out for you.

If it was a new car you might be able to complain about prior repairs, (though plenty of those get work before delivery) but this is a used car with all the baggage that goes with it.

Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware), the Romans called it, though I don't think they bought that many secondhand cars.

No mate, they were leader of the world so they only bought brand new.

They got good discounts tho.

Wasn't there a recall because the paint was too thin on the rear quarter panels? It may have been this reason why it's had paint. I would deffo ask the dealer.

I sold my focus RS back to the ford dealer in worksop, the car had only covered 1046 miles and was as new, but on the day the sales manager viewed the car it was raining and he only glanced over the car before he gave me a cheque for £19500, for all he new it could well of been accident damaged but he was more interested in keeping his hair dry, always always check the car again, again and again before you hand over that kind of cash.
I only sold the car because a mint RS500 came up, something i had previously been looking for but could'nt find, the focus RS is a fantastic car and ford sold it within a week for £22000

Hiya ...

Yes, there is a recall for thin paint layers in tailgate areas, This may be the reason for the work.

The paint job on the Focus RS wasn't the best.....
Every Focus RS including my one I had (from new) had a werid paint effect to both rear quarters as if it had been sprayed. I always hated that about it. Go and check out some other Focus RS's before being totally sure.

No offence mate but i work in sales mainly dealing in used for a major renault dealer and as you said yourself you don't have a leg to stand on.

They can take the point the car is used and was sold as seen. When selling a car you don't have to tell about repairs unless asked. You can't lie to a customer but don't have to confess to anything not asked.

If you ask to see the preperation report for the car it would show if they carried out the repairs to bodywork.

I've had cars come from the factory new with botched repairs

One of the reasons that the RS shell doesn't particularly stand out, in terms of quality, is because it's based on a Series 15 (which is the low spec car) It also has unique wiring, like the ST170, which for instance has the best stock sound system install.
On another note .. I also heard that the future RS is now likely to be cancelled

Please no more advise on what I should have done, I know But thanks for all the comments I'll take it back tommorow and let you all know how I get on.

Thanks again it's great that i can come on here with a question and get so much helpwithin a matter of hours, this was partly why i bought an rs and not a porsche, becuase of the following the rs brand has.

As far as "how does the car drive" it's like nothing I've ever driven, before this i had a bmw 330i club sport which I thought was quick, but this is another level I can honestly say that this is the most exciting car (out of the box) I have ever driven, I raced a porsche c4 the other day and I don't know wether he can't drive but I leathered it!! he's paid alot of money for that only to be out done by a focus.

As far as " vibrations from the engine" I've not experienced any? it just sounds very cossie like when you floor it.

HOLTY- I've got you're old escort rs turbo B10 EEP in my garage undergoing a full restoration, she's looking A1.

Thanks again for you're help and words of advise,

ant.

I am sure you get a cooling off period. I worked in sales for VW and you could hand a car back within a week or 10 days or something??? New or Used

I fell into exactly the same situation. I bought a black Lupo GTi from the VW franchise i worked for - no one said a dicky bird, when i got home it was so obvious to me and i usually pick out imperfections instantly, that the passenger side had been filled and painted and Yes i did check it over loads before i got it and don't know how i missed it
It was so disappointing. I sold it not long after.

As pee vee said Do Not take No for an answer. Trust me the dealer principle does not want someone screaming in his showroom! (seen it before!)

Holty- that would be fantastic if you could post me you're number so i can give you a call or I'll pm you all my infomation as to where to post it too. I would really realy appreciate that, and obviously I will cover any costs encured by you.

Grey rs- thanks for that I don't know how I missed it either but you know what it's like when you're buying a new car!! All sense seems to go out the window.

Thanks,

Ant.

at the end of the day, the dealer aint done nothing wrong if they aint trying to hide any bad history. Paint aint bad history, might have been scratched...doesnt mean its a fooked car and deserves being sold for less!

Should have checked it over properly imo.

How did you pay for the car?

If you have bought it on finance - complain to the customer services department of the Finance House.

The finance company will put a lot more pressure on the dealer than you will ever be able to.

You could also go to trading standards saying that the salesman told you it had never been involved in an accident!

The trading standards service will send shivers up their spine! - I know - I work for a motor dealer!

Surly if this car was bought secondhand from a Ford main dealers then it would of been sold under the Ford Direct flag where all the cars have these added benefits:

2 year unlimited mileage Ford Direct warrenty
2 year Ford RAC roadside assistance and accident care
Individual independant inspection by the RAC
30 day 'no quibble' exchange plan
Ford insure 7 day drive away insurance cover
National mileage register and HPI check
Tamper proof windscreen hologram
Preperation to Ford standards

If you have bought it under this scheme, then i'd go back and air your concerns.

Quick Reply: Just bought a focus rs, VERY DISSAPOINTED!!
