Yep sure seems that way, but what engine would you choose from 2005 for that sort of grunt if they are being fussy over same year installs? The smiley van I had to get rid of was running better on bio and sunflower oil, so what effect would that have on the nox? If it was lower that's real progress as the newer vans can't run on it I heard.

I can see your point but in all fairness as it is classed as a light commercial the info would have been there a good year or so before it came in! you was able to buy euro five compatible when euro 4 was out as a tax brake!

What am i on about euro 5 is the current emission regs your defender has fallen into. I was saying that you would have know about the charges a good year or so before it comes in! as you were able to by euro 5 vehicals when euro 4 was inforced!

So really if you have a window it's all good they are so fucking thick. Most of the large cars or 4x4s have a way bigger engine. But they have a side window so come on in, as no one in government would be seen in a light commercial with no side glass!

To be fair the Tfl muppets only contacted me a couple that's two months back, and now it looks like a late registered smiley could sneek in and will become exempt at the same time as my current 2005. That means for me 6k for 3years more I really don't think I will be able to keep up with this over the next few years and we are heading deeper into reccession, it's to much.

You don't get it do you. I don't care what you could buy, people can't just afford to go and buy a new car because it falls into some bullshit euro category!

you dont get it iver my point is the info was there a good year before you got your letter informing you so you could have known about it a long time in advance instead of jumping up and down about it on here a few months before it comes in!

Why would I have bothered to research something to do with commercial vehicles when I don't own one? You must have a boring life if you sit there looking into things like this all day.

And I'm not jumping up and down, I'm giving my opinions, and trying to help a guy with his. Why would I jump up and down, not like I've gotta pay it?

Im not on here all day mate it gos to my phone that is by me! And every post you have made is you complaining about it so id say that is jumping up and down and as for why would you have research it well then you would have know about it early as it seems to have come as such a shock to you and its not just to do with commercial vehicles is it! its also light commercials like yours! (or it wouldent be included)

AJamessc is totally correct what he is saying!

The reason it's been introduced is because the harmful particulate matter the affected vehicles emit!

As I say we were affected by it BUT because our vehicle was incorrectly classified on the log book which has now been corrected!

Thing is though it does seem very badly managed, in the fact I suspect they merely done a mail merge to all the vehicle owners that are registered with certain body types and the weight, this coupled with the age are the factors it goes on!

I can't help thinking though it is an attempt to screw the motorist as if they are so dangerous, why is it only we have the LEZ and no one else, as said?

In fact in the actual booklet you are sent it says one of the reasons "Is cleaner air for the olympics" which seems to dominate near enough everything at the moment, i.e. the digital switchover will be BEFORE the Olympics, the real reason is so Borris makes a good impression and gets brownie points for it.

Also why is it only now, these "Harmful emissions" have been noticed?

Yet you can still drive into London and pay the charge? That doesn't magically get rid of those harmful emissions though does it

Martin

Are you lot who are complaining about not being able to afford a new commercial vehicle serious? The scheme was announced in 2008, you have all had four years to prepare for the change!!!

london is not the only place with such charges:

http://www.frankfurt-tourismus.de/cm...tal_badge.html

that applies to cars as well.

If it's that easy to find money for a new car, then you give me Ł20k+ for a new defender? Why should we have to buy new car/vans if the ones we have work fine anyway?

first i heard about it was longer than that, work at renault trucks and we have euro 4 trucks on 56 regs coming in, so thats nearly 6 years. not 100% but i think it was roughly 10 years ago it was accounced.
i understand why they are doing it. A guy opposite my grandads place runs some of the old routemasters and the smoke that comes out the back of them stings your eyes.

There a quite a few firms round by me that use defenders as work vehicles, as essentially tow vehicles so i can see why they are included in the lez.

Simple solution to that, buy a cheaper 4x4. It not exactly like there isn't a massive choice of them out there to choose from. You must have a bit of cash knocking about to just afford a Defender in the first place, after all they ain't the budget end of the market.

My point is, the finalised information has been out there for four year... Hell the launch of the scheme was put back a year by Boris, if Ken's original plan had gone ahead as scheduled you would have had to change a year ago. Not only that I understand some dealerships have also been offering discounts on new commercial vehicles. Dunno if 4x4's come under that bracket or not.

Certinately, this was a discussion I was having with my clients two years ago and a lot of them are now ready for it.

just like edinburgh council that tried to bring in congestion charging as well but it was voted no by the people and was cancelled.
