Default LSD Front Diff

Been using an ATB front Diff in my Rally Car for Years the big benefit is that I find it turns in better and pulls out of corners quicker but I use a very aggressive set-up on the front end

Surely could dial out understeer with tyre and spring changes

Not really a real 4x4 with an open diff

I have an ATB on mine, haven't noticed much difference to be honest. I does seem to pull out of corners a bit better.

Don't know where people are getting this understeer theory from It also makes no difference to the steering, a plated diff would, but not an ATB.

I changed as i wanted a stronger diff (mine has a thickwall casing)

I guess you havnt tracked it paul, I had a lot of wheelspin on a trackday last year ( drivers front I think) , really ruined the pickup out of corners , thought of an atb

Must ask the micheal bird

I ran an ATB in front of Sierra for a while. It had horrific understeer.... few people suggested it maybe have been the diff. So we went back to an standard one.

Still understeered!

If only I knew now what I knew then about car set up and how important it is!

Most 4x4's are not proper 4x4, some even have an open rear diff as well

on the sierra the centre diff in the box is a viscous as well as the rear, the front is open because if you have spinning rears the power goes to the front under load, when you are going round corners the car is designed to oversteer as you have more torque going to the rears and the centre diff is the weakest link

you would be better to swap the centre diff for a higher rated torque rating before shelling out on a lsd for the front as this is the weak point

from what i can remember, cts did various stages of uprated centre diffs

Default Front ATB Diff

I run an ATB front Diff and a Powerlocker (American) Rear Diff 8" (Specially made by Glebe Engineering) and a Centre Viscous Diff the front end is set to FORD's Tarmac Standard set-up 3.5 degree neg Camber / 3 degree Caster / and 2mm toe-in this seem to work very well and I do not suffer any understeer (this is very aggressive on the tyres through)
