I was after the actual beam dimensions, distance between outer semi trailing arm pick ups left and right and distance between arm inner and outer pick ups. if that makes sence?

cheers,

The distance between the outer joints is roughly 119 cm. The distance between the inner and outer joints is about 47.5 cm.

i am thinking of making a 6degree beam, where do you put the adjustment? ie.up/down camber to the inner or outer of the arm, and side to side track inner or outer.
do you need super stiff springs?
do you need coilovers?
does the scorpio rear beam work on this setup? as the extra width could be a bonus.

if you can extend the arches. Then the wider rear will help.

Do you mean the bug eye Scorpio, or the Granada mk3 rear beam? The Granada has the same beam, but slightly wider arms.

But you do have to take into account that if you convert to 6 degrees, the wheels move in less at the top when the suspension compresses. So it might hit the arches, depending on wheel size.

i have looked at my car and the rear wheels are spaced out by 5mm and still have plenty clearance between wheel and arch.
is bugeye scorpio different to mk3 granada? if so how?

ive not read the whole thread but im sure that their must be other differences as i has a diff that i welded up from a new granada and it didnt fit in my cossie beam i had to chop loads of metal off the diff casing before it would fit so the granada one must have loads of room in the hoop part..

The arms don't fit a cossie beam either. The beam is thicker and iirc it's a bit more oval than round.

A diff from Scorpio Cosworth fits directly in a 2wd beam, and whit 4x4 driveshafts. That`s what i have ready for my escos

the one i have had a massive casing i chopped loads off the top of the diff and loads off the sides . ill take a pic of it tomorrow its still here only used it for a few miles drove like a pig with it welded.. came from a scorpio cosworth.
also used my 2wd shafts straight onto the 7.5 in scorpio diff. only difference in the flanges were the scorpio ones didnt have a lip round the edge like the cosworth ones.

If you have a 4x4 beam, then you have to cut of diff on the sides or cut of the bolting point on one side of the beam, and move it out to fit a 7,5" diff, my mate did that yesterday dont cut anything of the top. Drive flanges is 108mm on bought of my Scorpio Cosworth diffs, 2wd Cosworth have 110mm

no.. its a 2wd beam has had lots of 7.5 inch diffs fitted to it over the years and still has one in it now.. i had this scorpio one next to my old std cosworth one and only when you look properly you can see the difference.. id even painted it all up not knowing i had to chop it to fit. .. one of the raised fin sections on top was up to an inch higher and the fins around the opening for the side bearings were far bigger.. like i say ill take a pic of it tomorrow where i had to chop and even then it only just fits in the beam where the std one has room to line up the bolt holes better..

Strange, bought of mines fit straight in and my mates one after he moved one of the bolting points on his 4x4 beam.
2 other mates of mine have this done also, one of them cut of the diff for 4x4 beam fitting.
It`s very comon to use Scorpio Cosworth diffs here in Norway, because they are cheap and are not beiing used as hard as an Sierra 2wd one.
Maby frogy Scorpio have other diffs?

Bollocks ive got the same diff casing with a cwp that im going to swap over with mine and I didn't expect that I would have to trim the casing that much.

I'll have to try it in a beam first to see if it's the same i'll take some pics when I try.

Yup needs trimming at first look it doesn't look like it needs loads off. Did you fit it in the beam off the car then put it in or did you do it in the car?

Has your diff got a 3.9 cwp in it if it has it might be worth stripping it out and selling it.

did it on the car so took a bit off at a time and got pissed off in the end thats why it looks shit as couldnt be bothered in the end.. theirs a lot that comes off though . think when i checked it was 3.6 this one but got my dad to fill the planet gears with his arc welder and think the flanges are welded in so cant see it ever coming apart..

That must have been a pain in the arse!! Here's some pics of a trial fit.

It looks like its catching on 1 side but no doubt as I trim it it will need more as it slides into the beam

Very strange, don`t have any of this problem on any of my diffs from Scorpio Cosworth. I will use them as they are, not weld them up, as the lsd ids in good conditions on both of them.
Do you now what year your diff is from, or do you have production number on it?

Right you missing one thing. There are 2 Scorpio cosworths
The Granada mk3 one, pre 1994. This has a 7.5" diff the same one as fitted to the 2wd cosworths. But it has 100 mm drive flanges. They can be swaped for the 108mm if you want.
The other is the Scorpio cosworth also known as the bugeye. Post 1994
This is fitted with larger cased 7 1/2" diff. Webs are thicker and wider. It does not fit the Sierra 7 1/2" beam unless it's trimmed to fit. I have one in mine.
It has the 108mm drive flanges but these cannot be changed to 100mm flanges unless you get them from a dohc bugeye Scorpio. The inner spline is a different length as they are non LSD. One exception is if your lucky enough to find one that had an option LSD fitted, rare on this car.

There you have it, we use the old ones then. It`s not hard to get lsd ones from Switz, a guy here, brakes Scorpios in Switz and import parts, he have got alot of them

Yep, I guess all in all they are indeed 15mm longer - apart from some other -rather minor- differences ...

I've just compared these two semi trailing arms ...
