On a long drive with half a load sticking to a cruising speed of 80mph (on way through Europe) was getting between 38 to 41mph in a 1.8 Connect 75 from 2007

im getting 45+mpg not loaded but dont drive like miss daisy either.
the van is a tddi 75 (lwb), just been mapped and not sure yet what mpg im getting.

Also had a 90ps tdci connect (swb) and was getting about the same mpg. between 40-50mpg

I have a 75ps Tddi LWB connect, and get about 37-42 mpg with about half a load and moderate driving speeds.

I have heard that the more powerful versions are more economical?

Never found mine very good on fuel tbh, swb 75bhp tdi. Is fairly well loaded all the time with all my kit and i do have roof bars with ladders on and pipe tube which i don't think help on the motorway.
No better than 35mpg usually, definately wouldn't say they are the most economical van but they are a bit underpowered so you do find you have to drive them fairly hard.

Just stopped in Le Harve ferry port so calculated my mpg, must have been against the wind or more weight as mpg has dropped to 34.6mpg. Got about 120kg in the back weight wise.

the mpg seems to be about the same if not a bit better.
but the performance is loads better. dont seem to be thrashing it just to get it moving.

ok, seeing as we've had them for the past several years (albeit with fridge units stuck on top and the high top versions) i can say for sure that the more powerful ones do give better ecomony, but only just

our newest ones (110 brake) had trip computers and, driving like miss daisy, the best i managed was 46 mpg on a day of mixed driving, town and country
the same sort of mileage, but foot to the floor, saw this drop to 31 mpg

on our 90 brake versions (from 54 all the way to 59 plates) would get between 26 and 34 best to worst

we've had them without the fridge units too, as hires, and they were between 20 and 25% better of fuel for the 90 brake ones so, the best i would expect them to do is knock on the door of 60 mpg if you were doing 56 on the motorway

around town, in london and driving like a londoner i've had mine as low as 24 mpg so they really do depend on what your right foot is like

they also have a titchy fuel tank which may also explain their limited range, some of ours are much thirstier than others too, identical vans doing identical runs and one will do around 280 miles before the light comes on and the other will still have 1/4 of a tank left showing
