interested on this as well so BTT

On my S2 i WAS getting roughly 18/20psi on idle and 38/40 at 3000rpm when hot and running Castrol RS.

Then i switched to mobil 1 and it was slightly lower 15psi ish on idle and 35psi @ 3000rpm

Then about 2 months ago the headgasket+turbo bit the dust and i had a full top end rebuild with hoses/turbo/gaskets/cam kit ended up spending £1800 , the tuner i used put 10/40 semi synth in and not my idle pressure is near 8/9 psi and at 3000rpm its around 20 which im sure isnt right put hes checked it over and cleaned a valve out on the oil pump and tells me all is well ??????? im a tad worried to say the least, I have some mobil 1 under my desk here at work so I'll do an oil change this weekend and hopefully it'll help...... not really what u expect to do after spending the dough but nevermind

Sorry bout the post hijack

Mine is about 16psi at idle once warm. Rarely goes above 40psi once hot.

I asked this question a while back as i thought 15Psi at warm idle was low
id shit myself if i saw 8 or 9 psi! the bloody light comes on at 5Psi
when i start the car from cold i get around 60Psi but it soon drops and when giving it some it doesnt go much above 40Psi.
Warm idle is 'normally' 20Psi but it depends just how hot the engine is and ive ive given it any stick before hand!
I use 10/50 mineral oil

Im sorry but TBH i would be seriously worried if i saw 8Psi on my pressure gauge! its like a time bomb
im guessing you didnt have the bottom end done when your turbo and h/g bit it.
there are a few things that cause low oil pressure but fooked shells is the main one.and if they aint fucked yet they will be soon

I know it had a full bottom end rebuild about 3 yrs ago 25000 miles low comp pistons, bearings, polished crank etc at a cost of £1200 but not with this tuner :/ :/ its been none stop hassle since i got it back a month ago, thought they had sorted it but at the weekend I took the plugs out as it started running rough and noticed that they didnt even match 3 NGKs and 1 Motorcraft?????? Phoned them straight up and moaned and was told NOT TO WORRY as they where the same heat range???? £1800 and dont even change the spark plugs??

REALLY SORRY about the post hijack I'll stop now

Matt

Mines at about 10 psi when at warm idle and about 40psi at 2000rpm
I am in the proccess of rebuilding a new bottom end
Does your R.S make any noise since this has happened reason i ask is my top end has gone really noisy since this has happened tuner said its lack of oil pressure at top end of the engine just interested to see if yours is the same

the top end will rattle like fuck if there is no oil pressure...
the lifters wont be getting pressurised.. and they will 'tap' (more so at idle)
this means you cam etc will wear out much quicker and there is a chance of everything just siezing
like i say there are lots of reasons that can cause low oil pressure... if your rebuilding the engine make sure the head and block are nice and clean and the oil ways arent restriced in anyway.
Oh and change the oil pump as a matter of course
