A good bike run with interesting MPG!
I realise this is bike related and there is a bike forum but this thread is more aimed at an MPG discussion
I've been riding for 8 years now but never ventured too far because I'm pretty tall and it can get uncomfortable after a while. 200 miles is normally my daily limit before my knees want to explode.
Anyways yesterday I decided to say fuck it and go on a silly long journey from Aberdeen to Isle of Skye and back.
The ride itself was amazing. Aberdeen to Inverness is a bit boring but from then it's just a whole other world. We headed down the side of Loch Ness and on to Skye. We got TOTALLY soaked and by the time we stopped in Skye for lunch we were wringing out our jumpers and gloves
Anyways we had filled our bikes up in Inverness. Oh btw my mate took his old manny RG1200 BMW(he has an R1 and a gixxer thou so isn't a total bike nobber ). We rode to Skye which is all narrow roads with loads of traffic to pass and twists and turns etc and up and down the gears a little. There was no balls out acceleration as it was so wet.
We filled up again just before getting back to Inverness. I did 151 miles so I worked out that my bike did 54.1 mpg! Stick that in your pipe Klingon
I worked out that from Aberdeen to Inverness it was 45.3 and that was with a bit of boot.
Biking is so much cheaper than messing with cars. It's just a shame you get fucking soaked
My last point of the story is that more people need to explore the west coast of Scotland as it's fucking AMAZING. I'd never been over that way and I was blown away. I will return in Spring time
EDIT - PS I did 385 miles all in and am walking like John Fucking Wayne today

Nice one glad you had fun.The thing with cars is you dont get wet and you can listen to tunes on the radio too.
A lot of people think any where past leeds in this country doesnt exsist.

I listened to tunes yesterday for the first time ever on a bike. I always thought it'd be a distraction but I thought it was brilliant. It almost helped me concentrate more because normally I have a million things in my head and just think of loads of random shite
My bike is approx 300 Kg with me on it. Maybe just over. So hardly 9 times lighter
My bike is 186 bhp. Is yours 558? Graphs or STFU
All good fun mate

And his mate was probably doing the same MPG on another bike, so technically, averaging out both bikes for their entire journey, they were doing less per gallon than you.
PLUS you could probably fit 4 people in your car with some luggage.
AND any passengers won't have to spend the entire journey with their private parts half an inch from the driver's bumhole.

I ride day in day out on the commute. Manage to get anywhere between 45-50mpg most of the time. That equates to around 200-220 miles a tank at around Ł20!
I don't how how I got by in the past without a bike. A car just cannot compare to the freedom a bike offers. I only ever use the car now for functional jobs like going shopping.

I must be 90 Kg with leathers etc on. Maybe even more actually as it's all quite heavy.
Get to fuck. At least I'm a biker with nice toys. You're the worst kind. Middle aged, no bike and harks at days gone by Get a BMW bought!

2 - Agreed - I sail out of Largs a lot and around the Clyde Estuary and its awesome.
3 - This is a reason maybe I don't want a sports bike and the bike nobber bikes are the way to go?

We used to do loads of miles on the bike before the kids came along, the most miles in one trip - 600 in 11 hours
that was a very john wayne moment after that, we got to within 5 miles from home and had to get off - just happened to stop at a nice chinese restaurant lol
my ZX12R used to return in the 50's with me, the wife and our camping gear on.
ive got a cracking bike now, i commute 6 miles to work each day, bought a cheap (3yr old) chinese 200cc single, its never done less than 70mpg and i ride it like i stole it everywhere - and im best oart of 16 stone.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
West coast of kilt country is a lovely place. Been up a few times but never on the bike. I think St Marys Loch is the furthest Ive been in Scotland on the bike.
MPG on the Hayabusa is usually around the 40 mark on 2 up runs and usually in the mid 30's if Im out playing on it. I have seen it around 45mpg but that was when I first got it and was gaying about getting used to it
The R1 now only sees about 80-100 miles to a tank now and it takes about Ł20 give or take a few pence to fill that up.

I'm not into bikes but I think its also great fun driving around on one of them. I visited Scotland last year and also the Isle of Skye. It was a very beautiful place with great roads. Believe me or not, driving around in my Fiesta ST is a great pleasure. You stay dry, can take a lot of things with you, it's got a good heating and A/C and sitting in it nearly 20 hours in two days is no big problem. (Southern Uplands - Folkestone on Sunday, Folkestone - Home/Southeast Bavaria on Monday, 1200 miles)
Here are some nice photos of the Isle of Skye:

I'm not that interested in a ring trip on the bike. Bit dangerous there IMO.
Toys of the 2 wheel variety you nobber! BMW M3 is of course v cool. I reckon a BMW bike would suit you too
Bollocks! My tyre has LOADS of meat left and I almost turned 2k miles on tue. Not much use since I bought it in April last year
