You can demand it's repaired if it's not your fault but they'll try and opt out of it and say it can only be written off but your insurance can fight it and get it repaired or worst case get a solicitor.

Buy it back mate and either fix it or make money off the bits,
And get something that makes you happy

But aslong as the tops of the doors ect line up I would repair up

as mentioned above you can refuse it being wrote off as it is such an easy repair to a competent bodyshop, my garage could turn around a repair like that in less than a week easy just demand it to be repaired or if all else fails buy it back and repair it as the damage is very minor compared to some of the things we have repaired

It's called 'payment in lieu'. Basically the insurance company give you a wad of cash and wash their hands of it, and it's up to you to do what you want with the car and the cash.

I would imagine that would be classed as a Cat C as it looks like there 'could' be suspension damage, so to avoid the aggro of VIC checks and re MoTing it, I'd definitely consider payment in lieu if the offer is high enough.

And regarding the earlier point, no the insurers don't have to pay out to make the car perfect regardless of cost, they will only do so to the value of a comparable car.

So how did you get the dent on the rear panel?

This is the exact reason why I am even more aware when passing on-ramps and services.

When contact was made by the lorry it knocked me hard then I was all over the road and the arse flicked out hitting the central barrier of the motorway! Thought I was a gonna.
