Default Are these any good?Honda civic 1.5vtec 1998.

Reason I ask is there's one like this in my work carpark.

Name: 7d57a313.jpg
Views: 9926
Size: 56.7 KB

It's been sitting here ages and I reckon I can get it for scrap money basically.it's really low mileage and ironically in white,a touch scabby but I've got time on my hands up here and a long weekend would see it finished.

I know hondas have a bulletproof rep but I'd hate to buy the lemon of the bunch and eBay only revealed one for sale so I take it their either not popular or so good people don't want to sell them!!!

Insurance etc is no issue,it's just I'm driving a van up here and sometimes it's nice and cheaper to run a small car for a bit.

Thanks,Vaughan.

IIRC they're around 115bhp, they go reasonably well... that engine is more common in the 5dr MB-series Civic rather than the EK-series like that. If it can be made sound enough cosmetically, then you'll never struggle to sell it on, young lads who can't afford the insurance of the 1.6 DOHC VTi model will lap this up, specially in white.

Cheers,
Grant

I had an eg civic 1.5 vei quite a few years ago and absolutely hammered it everywhere. Thnk they do 2 1.5 engines . Mine was the single cam 16v. I loved it. sounded ace. Ony problem i ever found was the fuel tank was quite small and i was always at the petrol station. I used it for work for about 2 years averaging 600 to 750 miles per week

Yeah, Grant is right. When I was on a Honda forum or two, there was loads of people with those in 1.5 or 1.4 form. A lot cheaper than the 1.6 vtec versions to insure I think, so people like them.

Can't say I've ever been in one, but they can't be too bad I wouldn't have thought. My 1.6 SOHC vtec was a great car to be honest.

Also worth noting, be thorough when you check it for rot. These ones aren't as bad as the 91-95 shape, as they're a bit newer, but Civics rust just as badly as Fords of that era. I've seen people remove the plastic sill covers and just find nothing but rot!
