Right going to look at one at weekend.
its a SMG II 2003

what do i need to look out for?

is SMG the better type of box?

Depends if you cut hair or not

Personally mine had to be manual.

I'll let an expert explain what to look out for. I can tell you to check for the running in service which is critical!

As far as I know SMG1 was on E36 no?? It's crap too.

E46 smg2 is supposed to be ok. You can keep the left hand free to do your mascara

rear subframe/boot floor being fucked if they've used SMG in an aggressive setting. BMW will ONLY repair as goodwill if full BMW SH. Also cracked rear springs.

There are plenty now that people can afford to buy but not run (and not saying this is the case with you) but check that services and maintenance genuinely have been carried out.

You don't have to have fbmwsh to get the sub frame replaced, car has to be under 10 years old and standard suspension/ wheels etc.
Best bet is to join m3cutters for a buyers guide, they can have many faults, most of which are costly so take your time to find a good one.
