Do you think Arsenal are a disgrace?
I cannot believe they went into last nights game with a squad of 16 that didn't contain one British player.
No wonder our national team is so poor!
This happened in Scotland, mainly due to Rangers and Celtic's desire to succeed in Europe, and now look at the state of their national team!
I think this is wrong and the FA should put a stop to it.
There's plenty of good young British footballers who never get their chance to prove themselves at the top teams in this country.
Foreign coaches are the root of this problem, look at all the players that Mourinho, Wenger, Houllier and Benitez have brought into their teams, there's not too many British players in those squads.
Now being a Liverpool fan, I don't like Manchester United but at least they've got a number of British players in their regular starting XI, some of whom have come through their youth system.
If this influx of foreign players and coaches continues in this country England will struggle to qualify for competitions, let alone win them!
Rant over (For now anyway!)

Yeah, Arsenal area disgrace.
They've only nurtured some of the best English talent over the past few years:
Ian Wright
Dave Seaman
Tony Adams
Martin Keown
Lee Dixon
Ashley Cole
Sol Campbell
....... and I'm a Spurs fan!

this is the norm in football if peeps are unavailable through injury/suspension or ARE not GOOD enough @ the moment what do you want the managers to do pick them and get thrashed. FOOTBALL a business and/so put out the best 11 or 16 available to try and do a job on the opposition

Apparently UEFA by 2007 will have brought back the rule stating that every team competing in Europe will have to field at least 6 players from their own country...good news IMO and I think Arsenal would struggle a bit if that was the case now!

Pennant, Upson, Halls, Barrett, Bentley, Chilvers etc All British youngsters deemed not good enough for Arsenal and now plying their trade for lesser teams or in lower divisions. 5 years or so ago they would have been given more of a chance at Arsenal, these days they don't even get the opportunity.
If you look at the Arsenal squad as a whole the amount of foreign players is astounding, even their reserves and youth team are made up of foreign players.

But that's the problem they don't!
As soon as they leave the big team the progression is slowed, the coaching and facilities are not as good, they're not playing in the big games, against quality opposition and with high quality team mates.

I agree with M7cos to a point, Its not so much not playing english players more like the whole bringing new good players thru the ranks, the players in Richs example are all good but barring Ashley Cole were all brought thru by previous managers, and were established expieriened players when wenger took charge, I think they are not doing enuff to bring thru british youngsters, more like buying young forieng players and nurishing them. all IMO of course

Arsenal aren't the only guilty party here, Chelsea and Bolton are not much better.

i remember the good old days when you could only have a maximum number of foreigners in the team, 4 i think.it meant some real shuffling for the teams that didn't have many home grown players.
i'm a liverpool fan and to be honest i would rather see more english players in the team, but to be fare when you are trying to recapture your past successes you need to look at players quality not just their passports. Benitez has bought in some real quality, but has now got to wittle the shite out of the squad that houllier left behind. there are some young prospects , mellor, partridge, raven, potter, warnock , etc but i doubt any of them have the quality to get into a squad that needs to be challenging for the title. i expect to see baros leaving in the summer aswell as , although i hate to say it, stevie g. plus side is that the extra money will be able to bring on 5 or 6 top draw players and with xabi alonso already looking good enough to help fill the gap left by stevie, the future is bright if you ask me. anyway just remembered this is a car forum so i'll shut me trap.

i dare say your'e right mate but a couple of titles wouldn't go amiss, and a CL trophy, FA cup , all in the next two years would be nice seriously though we are miles of the top 3 again so we need to be on their asses from the off in my opinion. i do believe benitez is the man for the job, his record speaks for itself. If i remember correctly he sold Mendieta for 30 odd million in his first season ( his captain at the time ) and still went on to win many things, after the fans slated him for selling their messiah !!
