Seems very decent to give 2k towards repairs especially for an old car, People tend to forget as stunning as old cossies or RS's in general are they are fuckin old and will go wrong from time to time and if the car has been examined for ages before buying then id be fucked if i personally would give any cash back tbh

Old cars like these dont get warrantys

Top bloke imo

Or after every seller lied about what was in or on each engine!

Craigs a top guy for doing that no one else would have.

IIRC, he bought it from col_cos1 from Edinburgh and it wasn't all plain sailing for Craig with that deal.

Cheers,
Grant

Just clarify all the speculation that is going on with this, because as usual it's just bullshit and guessing, which leads to people getting upset.

Some background: The engine was bought as complete high spec Mountune unit. Once back on the road after the resto, Craig replaced the turbo with a brand new T34, as the original had failed. As he had agreed to sell it to Tom once the resto was finished, he did very little mileage in the car and it then went to Marks for a few final finishing touches to make it ready for sale.

When Tom came to look at it, he spent a good couple of hours looking around the car whilst on
the ramp (inspecting all the detailed undercar resto work that both Craig and Mark Barber had
carried out). When he was happy with this Craig took Tom for a test drive (Craig driving). A couple of times Tom noticed it was smoking a bit, but this was explained that it was in Craig's opinion the oil still in the exhaust from the failed turbo, which was naturally a feasible explanation and given the alleged provenance
of the engine, neither of them had any reason to doubt things further.

The deal was struck and Tom took the car away. Once a few miles down the road and as soon as it came on boost, Tom felt that it was smoking far worse than the previous given explanation and given his own car (that he traded with Craig) was a 260 bhp Escort of similar age (but still an original ST model), he just didn't feel it was right, so phoned Craig and immediately turned back.

This is where Craig then offered the £2k refund, after consulting with Mark over what it would likely cost to top and tail the engine to resolve the issues that were now becoming aparent.

Tom agreed to this and took the car away.

With a contact at MTS, he got them to pull the engine apart and there were quite a few issues discovered, guides hanging out of the head and a couple of poor head repairs (so much for the Mountune engine).

Now you have the pertinent facts (with me having spoken to BOTH parties directly), perhaps the speculation can end now?

Noone has done anything intentionally wrong, both parties naturally feel a bit maligned and so it has got a bit heated. But now both peeps just want to put it behind them and carry on with their lives.
