thanks James,

BMW use so many different letters after the model its confusing Assume M Sport is the one to go for other than an M3 of course, which doesn't appeal.

Same as the saloon models etc, there's two trim levels.

SE = non-sport bumpers, non-sport wheels, softer suspension.

Sport = sport bumpers, bodykit, suspension and trim package

For example:

330ci SE

330ci Sport

I'm sure he does really. he fancies me. He wanted an FRS when I had one and now wants a similar BM.

tooling about in the top one, you could be a proper undercover gangsta and no one would blink and eye, but the bottom one you could be pushing a 318 and it would be getting a tug from every copper 24/7 round my neck of the woods

Just kidding, the SE looks toilet, the M-Sport is cool if you're forced into a smaller engined petrol or need a diesel... but if you're looking at big 6-cyl petrol engines, then the M3 is getting too cheap to ignore IMO.

Cheers,
Grant

Yep.

...and while they are getting cheaper, 4.5k won't get an M-thrizzle though.

Really like the M Sport E46 coupes, especially in the darker grey with the led rear lights pack.

Ive been studying these for far too much time lately as getting one soon as i view a good one.

Ci means its a coupe with a injection (guessing), petrol engine

a Cd means its a coupe with a diesel engine.

330ci clubsports are a nice model. Come in the individual estoril blue or velvet blue, or silver. They have the spoiler, split rim wheels, front corner splitters and have 20 odd kg less sound deadening so u can hear engine more. They also sit a little bit lower than normal m sport models.

A true m sport will have sport stated on the log book. Alot of people put the bumpers and wheels on to make their lesser se models look like the more desirable msport, but alot dont bother changing to the msport steering wheel which has a little 'm' logo so thats one giveaway if its not a genuine one. M sports also have a 'm' badged gear knob and sill plates.

You can pick up low mile m sports coupes for about 5k for ay a 52 plate, with higher mile 04 plate facelift models even coming in at the 5.5k mark.

Be aware that they facelifted the e46 in 2003. Facelift one having different front lights, led rear lights and the newer style mv2 wheels, although imo the pre facelift still looks alright and u can get a late 03 plate pre facelift at a bargain price where most people want the facelift.

Im now starting to sound like a complete sad annorak so will stop now lol, hope that helped though.

All 2 door E46 BMWs have the 'C' in the model name to signify coupe. Only difference as said above is whether you go for the SE or M Sport versions. Also note that the later models (think 03 onwards?) were facelifted such as the M Sport examples above so the front end looks slightly different amongst other things.

Assuming you have the cash to bump the budget up to get a decent example, then I'd go for a FRS all day long... although, if you have the budget for a good FRS, then you are in the right kind of ballpark for an E46 M3 which makes the decision slightly harder IMO.

Cheers,
Grant

Westy keep Type R unless going for late BMW. 330cd are better than 330ci's quicker to once remaped. Up budget and could buy my 330d convertible lol.
