Default 3 Door Sierra Engine Options?

I have bought a 3 door Sierra base model rolling shell for my younger brother.
He is 21 and now can afford to insure a modded car.

Anyway, the plan is cossie bodykit.. paint the car red.. and new interior. But what to do engine wise?

No way can he afford to put a YB in it...

I know they made sierras with 1.8 CVH engines in.. So would a EFI rst lump be good enough to power it... not really interested in putting a V6 in it..

So what other engine options are out there?

Saab 2.3 Turbo... can be had cheap, with a bit of basic adjustment you can make them fit and there is reasonable scope for tuning. I'm sure that Chip will give further info if you wanted.

the 5cyl out of the mk2 frs would be great in one of them

as said, saab turbo lump or you could do zetec/duratec conversion. The vauxhall c20xe and c20let lumps have been put in mk1 and mk2 escorts a few times and seem to give good results so maybe you could consider that

depends how much you have to spend and whats going to be affordable for him insurance wise, rs turbo engine would pob sit nicely in there and will be fairly cheap to do, but your going to have some problems with a wiring setup for a crank trigger sensor or crankshaft sensor i think? as the rs turbo one goes into the fwd gearbox if im not mistaken? and the sierra rwd setup doesnt have that it has a crank trigger pulley on the front and im not sure how you would go about getting around that or if it would be expensive, otherwise the sump engine mounts etc can be got hold of easily and are just bolt on and only custom bit you would need is an exhaust

Take a look on this thread for details, Chip says they can be had for a few hundred quid...

https://passionford.com/forum/genera...-car-wise.html

If I was using a 3dr shell, I'd go for this option over a 1.6 CVH every time.

2.0 pinto in there would be fine for him being 21.

Has he any experience of driving a rwd car?

Don't put a CVH in it...... Saab Turbo, this is being suggested for everything at the mo! Prices will start going up, I'd get it done ASAP

True, they are starting to become very popular and produce silly power on standard internals.

My mates putting one in a mk2 cortina at the moment.

The 1.8 CVH was unique to the Sierra an isn't the way I would be going , the 1.6 CVH was also available, so yes the RST lump should be up to the job as it has more power, it's the most powerful out of the engines you have shortlisted!

My personal favorite would be a Pinto, not only did they have them anyway but they are tunable and will be the easiest to get running.

They were also available in 1.3, as they were mechanically the same as the Cortina bar the fully-independent suspension but that's another story, massively underpowered hence why it didn't last long.

ERST does not have a crank sensor, if you want to go EFI CVH then look for a FRST engine, or alternatively you will have to drill a hole in the block for the CPS, if converting the ERST to EFI!
