hope you have £3k to spend on mods ,unless you can get hold of S1 or S2 engine conversion as its cheaper

There's no strict instructions on how to do it, as there are just so many ways of doing it!

How much power do you want, and how much money do you have?

A the very very least you will need a method of lowering the compresion. iirc you can skim the piston crown on the 1.8 to do this. what turbo and exhaust manifold do you have?

From what you have now you will need

Exhaust system
engine management
suitable injectors
Turbo to intercooler and intercooler to thorttle body pipework
Air filter and pipe to turbo
An oil feed to keep the turbo fed with the golden stuff
Fuel pump possibly.

To be honest it would be far easier and cheaper to just drop in a complete EFi RS Turbo engine

you will probably get away with stadard rods but you WILL need uprated pistons!

you would be better off getting a silvertop 2l out of a mondeo and building that up as a turbo motor and then dropping it in.

the other stuff you need to consider though FIRST are:

1) BRAKES, the standard escort ones are shit without going for more power. really you'll be needing st170/mondeo mk3 300mm with uprated pads minimum imho
2) SUSPENSION, you'll be going that much faster into a corner if you don't brake enough you will need decent suspension to keep you on the road
3) TYRES, don't for the love of god fit cheap shit as it won't keep the power on the road and after spending all that money on mods why skimp on what actually keeps you on the road!
4) TRANSMITION, gearbox and diff in the category. as standard you will have an ib5 with an open diff. it WILL die. only real option is upgrading to an mtx75 and even though its not essential an uprated diff will help no end for handling and putting the power down.

now do you really think you have the budget for all this? can you fit it all yourself?

there WILL be fabrication work involved! it WILL take a fair amount of time to finish!

is the body shell in a decent enough condition that its worth keeping? doesit need any repairs?

oh and

5) INSURANCE, you WILL have to notify your insurnace company of all your mods and it will more than likey bump your premiums up a fair bit.

now ask yourself this.

is it still worth doing for you?

Well, you won't get anything like 300bhp on standard internals, I'll tell you that for nothing!

You'll need pistons and rods if you want it to last, so you might as well buy a 2.0 engine, as there's loads of choice of pistons for them. Leave the top end standard, just fit some uprated valve springs, and the engine will be capable enough. Just need the right manifolds and things then. Standard Ford inlets would be ok, either a 130PS one from an RS1800, or the Focus one.

Then exhaust manifold partly depends on turbo choice. Could use an RST one, or a Focus RS type one.

Then management, intercooler, injectors, and hundreds of other little bits that you won't have thought off that will add up to far more money than you expected!

Not to mention needing a gearbox/clutch change to take the power!

Nothing "shit" about a CVH, mine frequently gives friends Subarus and BMW's a good kicking.

Work out what you think it will cost and then double it. Have you allowed for having the thing mapped once built, several hundred pounds on its own.
