Default Exhaust droning?

My Focus exhaust is droning.
When I first start the engine up when it's cold it sounds like the exhaust is blowing, but 2 seconds later all is well.
And then on the motorway it drones from the back end, sounds like a wheel bearing but as soon as I take my foot on the accerlator it goes?

Can silencers 'wear out'. There aint any signs of any leaks and just had a brand new cat fitted.

Any advice?
If I got to replace it then I'l go get a nice custom one done with 4-2-1 manifold and get something extra quiet that won't hurt the performance. But as I'm getting rid in 12 months I don't really want to spend out on the car any more.

check for leaks when cold, manifold gaskets sometimes mack a racket til they get a bit of heat into them because they are failing, the drown could be the guts fell out of the box, if your car had alot of furry stuff on it or coming out of the pipe its the packing falling out
and when it does it usually makes it more echoy than louder and you get more resonance from the exhaust to the floor pans

give it a tap here and there to see if anything seems bad

There is a slight rattle, and the ehxuast sounds very raspy, full chat and the car actually sounds very meaty, but I know something aint right. I did notice one edge of the flexi fraying but I don't think that could be causing it?

I'l open the bonnet tommorow morning when the engines stone cold and try locate where the blows comming from. But it does sound like it's comming from the tailpipe? Which is whats really confusing me

hey, have you tried the flexi on the manifold? i found on mine (being a 1.6) that the flexi can break but can still look perfectly normal, get it in the air and see of any black sooty leaks
