Default speed camera vans..how close?

was driven up to my dads this morning, was in a 30. had a stupid 20mph sunday driver in front of me, it pulled into a shop i was in 2nd so i floored it went up to 50ish mph when i spotted the samera van i stood on the brakes as i came within 20-30m of it and got to 30. i would have been partly obsured by walls and cars but im sure it parked in such a way it could see up the straight, seen the cunt writing something as i went past.

the question is at what distance do they recored your speed? is it an average?

as above, think i got done on the way into RIAT yesterday,
the can read your plate from miles away but the van has to be visable from a 100meters or something before they can nick you

The problem is they don't 'have' to be visible - It's one of the guidelines, but it's not a way to wriggle out of the fine as it's not illegal if they're not.

It's definitely a case that 9 times out of 10 they see you before you see them, and it's not an average, it's a virtually instantaneous recording via a frickin' laser beam.

Hopefully if he was writing something, then he was distracted and didn't 'ping' you.

I've seen a camera van half dozen times while doing over 50 in a 40, I've still got no points so must be a minimum time of some sort to be caught.

Don't worry about getting done for speeding, he was probably noting that you were driving dangerously

You'll have to ask him. He brings them up whenever speeding fines are mentioned. I've no idea what's in them!

Any time upto a month I 'think'. I thought I'd been caught in my missus Mondeo a few months back, turned out to be an anpr van, so you 'may' be lucky. Don't be suprised if a summons come thundering through the door tho

We don't have ANPR vans here, so it won't be one of those

probably find they were marking down the time so its easier to marry the tape up later at the station. Also makes it easy to add up total tickets to be issued and hence the tally the cop needs to add to his league table

Generally they have 14 days to issue the Notice of Intended Prosecution, so if you've not got anything within a fortnight chances are you've got off.
