Nice one bud.

Go for something small engined and cheap to insure

Get a project on the side, don't do what most do and use your first car as the base.

Save up, and by the time you can insure it, you could have built a weapon!

All the best.

expect to get bummed paying circa £3k for insurance no matter what you drive!

well done on passing supposedly its been harder to pass recently as they are tightening there belt about things, 5 minors is pretty good!

most polacys allow you to add 8 named drivers or so, and the more you have the less likely you are to be driving the car (or so the insurance company think) so add who ever you know with a clean licence, Mum, dad, aunt, granny, other half ANYONE it brings the price down!

I like polos, just cant stand any renault. The interior is so cheap and tacky, feels like your sitting in poundland.

Congrats mate. As most others have already said, go for something small engined and basic to start with until you build up a couple of years no claims. Pass plus is a good idea as it should reduce your insurance a bit which is all good.

Get a mk1/2 fiesta just to snoop around in, or as said, 1.25 fiesta's are quite pokey.

Well done on passing your test

I also passed 1st time but with 3 minors, although this was about 8 years ago! lol

54k to insure an mondeo My insurance on scort went up this year it was £347 inc breakdown last year...this year the renewal came through at £640 roughly without breakdown, i rung them up, told them i was not happy and would not be staying, and ive been with them for 4 years, no claims no nothing, and they reduced it down to just under £500 inc rac breakdown...

Well done on passing you test, now you just have to face the legalised robbery they call car insurance, unfortunately for you your postcode is really gona let you down, how about something like this

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2997801.htm

I reckon if you could get enough money together to lower it a touch, a bit of de badging and maybe paint the wheels black, you could have quite a cool retro car. They weigh fuck all so it should be a good bit of fun to drive.

haha, i had one of them years ago lmao

after my mk2 fiesta gave up the ghost, i needed to get a cheap run about...its the one car i actually HATED, but i picked it up cheap and it got me from a-b!! I nicknames it scrap heap challenge but on insurance side of things....definately cheap! lol

Congrats mate. As far as cheap n cheerful you might consider a low milage 1.1 saxo or 106. Simple mechanicals, cheap to run, low insurance bracket, and look okay.

i honestly would not bother with anything main stream like that as they are not cheap to insure as loads of young drivers write them off!

i recon the ax is a good idea and if you get a diesel one you'll only need to fill it up once in a blue moon.

Thanks Guys

Some good car ideas to! I like the sound of the Mk1 & Mk2 Fiestas/Escorts, problem is though if there not rusted to death, then there not cheap!

Saxo's and 106's would be megabucks to insure i think as all the chavs love them. I know i cant really be fussy if i want to drive now, but a Citreon Ax! Come on im allowed a bit of taste

I'm liking the idea of a Mk4/5 fiesta 1.25, with maybe a Mk2 Fiesta or Mk4 Escort as a sideline project. Some of you may remember the 206 i had, well that was a 1.4 and they surprisingly only wanted £1500 to insure that, but the interior was poverty spec and it was orange outside But i may also look into getting one of those too

Cheers.

Not a chance in getting a mk2 escort I'm affraid, they are so highly sought after, even as 4 doors that you'll pay through the nose to get one. I suggested the ax cause its a car thats cheap, and a bit different, its not what it looks like when you get it that matters, its what you can get it to look like afterwards that matters.

It is literally because ive just passed

Quoted £6500 on an 06 1.2 corsa, date passed, 13/07/2011
Quoted £1500 on the same corsa, date passed, 13/07/2010

Worth the risk?

Congrats on passing, look around at any car if it's cheap to insure/run, lets face it it's only to serve a purpose in building NCB etc, who cares what it is.
I passed my test many moons ago, just after they got electricity where I live!!, so was cheaper, car cost me £200, insurance cost me £250, had people asking me if I was breaking the car, it was that bad, a mini eSTATE, both back doors were wired shut as a volvo ran into the rear of it before I bought it, and the engine needed about 15 seconds of gentle coaxing to get the oil pressure to register, the gear lever used to regularly come off as well, but it was my 1969 mini and I loved it, PRU 122G in racing red, I even put flames on the side!!

well done and all, but fuck paying 4k insurance for some piece of £200 shitter

i dont know why young kids bother these days tbh, its a right rip off.

get a 50cc ped imo

i once had to pay £1750 insurance when i was 20, id been banned for speeding for amonth, and had 3 crashes, 2 my fault all in one year.

a £300 1l mini was going to cost £1550 to insure - so i bought a £800 205 gti and paid the £1750 lol

im now 30 and can get insured on a noble m12 gto for £540 lol

Congrats on passing your test
with regards a car go for something that can be classed as a classic and go direct to the insurance company, as it was a little while back some lad got a 1.3 mk4 escort and got insurance for about £800 if i remeber rightly and posted on here in the insurance section.
possibly go for more of a family car than the usual small box as you might be surprised on insurance as they think they are less likely to be raced about.

Congrats on passing, now you start learning to drive.

First car suggestions, whatever is cheap to insure, you will get raped. Lower insurance group the better. Fiat Sceicento, 12v Corsa etc. Both horrid cars but after you have 12 months NCB you can look for something better.

i wouldent say you have to have something very shit for a first car, even without a 1.4, 1.6

you can still have a lot of fun behind the wheel of a 1.0, 1.1.

just look at the old 850 mini's, great to drive even if they were "slow"
