ive never looked, but what about something like a kia. not your usual boy racer chioce of wagon lol. i have no idea on insurance for one of those tho.

funny thing with me is, a noble is £540, a mk2 FRS is £540 but a supercharged s2 lotus exige is £730... and i want the lotus lol

my current puma is about £300 to insure, and our cmax was about £320.

Yeah good point about the 'not your usual boy racer chioce of wagon', think this is the most important part. Typical boy racer cars that can be made to look shit for next to nothing, usually cost the most.

1.0 12v corsa club. Group 2. Make sure you get quotes from Admiral as they are meant to be most competitive for your demographic currently.

Congrats by the way! Most useful exam I ever took!

Congrats on passing

Id say go with something like a mk4 fiesta 1.25 as your first car

but tbh its down to your budget, but really how much do you want to splash out on a car when your likey to have a few bashes it in anyway

Once I passed, my first car was a 29000 mile mk4 xr3i cabriolet and it cost me 3500 a year to insure it 3rd party fire and theft. Over 5k fully comp back in 2005. Well done by the way.

Just one question, is it cheaper going direct to the companies that are not on the comparison sites?

Going along with what fudgey said, have you thought about something like a hyndai accent? The 1.3 is a pretty nippy motor and it shouldn't be expensive to insure as most people don't even know what they are.

what are those little 2 seater diesel 3 cylinder things?

i cant remember what they are but someone round here has one, it sounds fucked what with it being a 3 cyl derv lol, but it must cost like £2 to insure and do about 1000 miles to a tank lol

edit:

search auto trader for AIXAM 500 SL - i was wrong, its a 2 cylinder derv lol. 70 mpg, ins group 3U, top speed - a staggering 28mph!
a 2005 reg with 11k miles, will set you back less than £2000! not bad eh

i think all new drivers should have to use one of these for the first year after passing

edit again, the 2005 reg one on autotrader is a petrol, 2 cylinder, 4 valve, 21 bhp, 27lbft and will do 53mpg!!!

the petrol does 53 lol, and the later dervs are 48....

i bet they cost fuck all to insure, tax and run. the only downside is you will look like an utter cunt driving one

they are a town car, ment for 30mph limits - not motorway cruisers however.

i used to think it was ridiculous getting quoted £3000 to insure a r34 skyline when i was 17 now it just seems the norm to pay that for a £200 snotter of a car lol
ive never paid more than £650 to insure any car in all the time ive been driving and thats with a few claims and many points and thats ranging from
205 gti's
rs turbo's
rover turbo's
xr4x4's
and my cossy!

Only until you pass then it will rocket as you'll no longer have an experienced driver with you and can get out and in to trouble on your own.

Chap at works daughter had this. £650 or so until she passed then they demanded an additional £1200

My brother passed his test at 25 and insured a 106 gti for £1300 TPFT. A year later it was £700. He got sick of fixing it and bought a Suzuki Swift Sport on an 07 plate and pays £1200 fully comp.

What he found was that there was a "baseline" which was on the lowest insurance group say for a cinquecento or the like it was £1200. But he could get insured on something that actually moved for an extra couple of hundred - this an RST was £1600.

Not sure if this is the case with a 17 year old though. There's an 18 year old at work paying £6k on a Mk5 fiesta zetec s. When that broke he now pays £4.5k on a 1.0 Lupo. He does have a shitty Manchester postcode though (even shitter than a normal manchester postcode)
