Default Best place to get my cosworth set up & mapped properly

I need some advise, i need the best place North West of england to get my car mapped and set up so its running right.

I have had a couple of bad experiences with MSD but i'm not slagging them off but im not going back there!

Anyone recommend the best to get my car sorted - dont mind rolling road set up/road test set up or travelling for the right deal

If it's Weber and you're not happy with MSD, then either NMS, Reyland, Turbo Systems, if other management Autronic, Vi-Pec then Mark Shead...

the trouble with msd, is that they won't live map a fast car,but they can do a family 4 door saloon. To get it done,i'll have to take it somewhere that can handle a proper car ......................

of course they will, they just wont live map an unsafe fast car - there is a big difference!

Unsafe ?,depends who's driving, seen some pretty unsafe sierra drivers in my time, how many sierra drivers you seen wrapped round a tree,or upside down in a ditch, how many cosworth kit cars you seen upside down or in a ditch. It all depends on the on the person behind the wheel.

from my understanding of how MSD work..

- You take you car for a set up/ live map
- MSD will go through a series of checks to ensure your car is running correctly & safe
- If they find something which will potentially put their live & others at risk they will NOT live map it on the road
- MSD will give you a sheet of paper to tell you of the things that need correcting to make it safe
- You fix faults (or they do) and they will then live map on the road

If my understanding is correct, i cannot see what is wrong with that, can you?

Yep,completly agree with you.I can assure my car is completly tip top, best brakes, parts, tyres etc....but msd won't do it.yet i have spent probably Ł1000 plus on parts etc,and willing to spend another Ł500 on getting it mapped properly. The only reason i can see is they won't do it,is the performance,ie its a bit on the fast side, which they are probably not used too,and they are worried about crashing it..I'm quite happy for them to give me a list of unsafe parts to do,I'm pretty certain they won't find any

As per Pete really, if you can get it there, NMS for Weber and MAD for aftermarket

Don't blame you for not using MSD

That pretty much sums it up perfectly.

We do this for a living, not for a laugh, So if the car is not suitable for the work or the power, we will send it away with a list of work to be done.
Likewise if the car is unsafe for us to drive, we simply wont drive it!

As for mapping kit cars,
The issues that arise are generally space for all of our gear to fit in, and power to weight, if we cannot generate load and have full traction then it becomes very hard for us to correctly map or set it up.

If you want us to have a go at your car, then we will need to get some speed up to generate some load, so feel free to book us brunters for a day, and we will be there for you.

We dont shy away from fast cars at all, ive been mapping with stu in 1000bhp cars but they are cars that are capable of allowing us to do so safely.

Good Morning,
I dont like the sound of that and would like to look into it further please. Are you sure that your car didnt have issues that prevented us from completing the work?

Can I have you name so I can see who worked on the car, what it was booked in for and what was done by us please?

Or your work report number or last 4 digits of the registration will do. I promise you I will look into it this morning as someone has failed to turn up for this morning booking so i have a couple of hours to burn.

Not having a go stu/james,i do know what you mean about the power/ratio side of things,i do wonder how it can be live mapped on the road, its impossibe to floor it in anything below 3rd,without hanging on and going sideways.I'm just having a light hearted dig, banter type of thingy.

Problem with that is mate, without hard evidence that they are incompetent, even a bit of light banter will be taken as malicious slander that questions their professionalism. Every company has good and bad days, which in turn either gets good feed back from customers who listen, or petty digs because the car wasn't safe enough to work on (but the owner ignores that fact).

I took my old Focus RS to MSD once and they did a great job and Stu has on countless occasions answered my questions on here; as have many others. The fact I get my car mapped elsewhere is no reflection on MSD service, its simply a toss of the coin and sticking with people I'm closer to and have already done a lot of engine parts for me.

I've heard so many good and bad things, as well as seen the outcome of shit work done by loads of companies. Doesn't mean they're bad, just means there's other factors that come into it apart from "the tuner did a half assed job!"

No wagon to jump on pal, just stating a fact that light banter can offend others. Especially if they make a living out of it.

Precisely. Do you fancy doing that with a laptop, boost gauge, AFR monitor, 3 hardware dataloggers, an emulator, a twin map backup system and a large mapping box full of tools and, importantly, a huge fire extinguisher on your knee, then monitor and adjust that lot in a car as fast as yours, whilst also navigating traffic?

At brunters we can leave a lot of that stuff at the pull over part with you while James and I map it then come back to make adjustments, you cant do that on the road.

If we have an accident in a Lancer or Skyline, we will write the car off and hopefully live to tell the tale. if we have an accident in yours, we very well might die. You have to remember this is a just a job. Would you take that risk in your job?
