Default Focus ST

Well I should be selling my M3 tomorrow night and as ive got a kid on the way i wanted more of a family car so ive decided on a focus st, i dunno wether to go for a 5dr or 3dr tho.

Wots the bad points to look out on them and wot are they like on fuel etc
Would it be best to buy a modified one or a standard one?

Got around 8k to play with and i am tempted by a RS focus aswell lol

Any help would be great thanks

I would go for a 3dr I find it easier to put my son in the baby seat, Good cars been very happy with mine and runs between 24 to 31mpg.

Do you mean the ST225?
As you have a kid on the way I would strongly suggest the 5 door! I have a 3 door and a 4 year old, although she can climb in and out ok it would be so much easier with 2 extra doors. Even more so for you putting the child seat in the back, much easier straight in rather than awkwardly climbing past the front seat.

My child seat does not turn so for me its easier to climb in even though I am 6ft4 and drop him straight in.

I've got a 5dr ST just for practicality really, it's still a ford focus at the end of the day so needs to be practical! I prefer the look of then in 5dr anyway, think it's quite a big heavy looking car and the more doors kind of breaks things up a bit!

I would of thought the 5dr would of been easier for getting kids in and out of the back.

When ever my sons been in the front of my Smart car its been a pain to get him in and put his belt on, this would be the same for me on a 4dr car,
My seat does not rotate on its best this would be a big help on a 4dr.

We have a Sea Grey 3 door with 2 small childern with no trouble at all both car seats go in loads of space. We took it to Euro Disney last year and it coped with ease.

IMO the 3 doors look better in ST form. Good choice of car I loved your M3 in the for sale thread good luck with the ST. Remember to join the STOC as the London SE memebers have lots of RR days and local meets.

I may have a 5 door grey ST-3 [leather] coming in p/ex at the weekend, 40k miles, 56 plate and will be around Ł8k. This is not a for sale advert as I don't have the car yet. However, I'm available via PM.

Good cars ime, we've been through a few of them over the last few years and not had any warranty issues [touch wood]. The last one had an exhaust/chip and was fairly rapid too!

As for 3/5 door. If the kid can climb in the back on their own, I'd say 3 door as they haven't got window switches/door handles to fuck about with. If they're babes in arms, a 5 door would be easier on your back surely?

Yea mine goes quite well, got a big intercooler, better filter / intake, exhaust and a remap, I've not had it RR'd but cars with the same mods are pushing 280 bhp and 320 lbft so that's plenty enough for the wife to get herself in bother with!

I'm off work for a few days and she's pinched my car to take her to work today, left me with her nissan note, i'm gutted

Here's mine in 5dr

What sort of back lights has your got Rich? They look very well suited to the colour of your car and look ace.

They are the Ultra LED ones mate. Even though they are the smoked versions they looked a bit too chrome for my liking, so i gave them a very light squirt with some of that tinting spray stuff.

My first baby is due next 2 weeks, i have the 3 door ST facelift.

The baby seat only fits in front when i bought at weekend, couldnt get the isofix base either as no clips for it to fix to. Would be easier having a 5 door but dont like any 5 door cars.

So i bought her a five door and will just keep it in the front when i drive. I had to get the air bigh switch done at fords which was Ł180ish

Is the new focus only in 5 door by the way?

Yes new focus is 5 door only. I've heard you can get an isofix kit for the mk2 focus. I got a base that straps into the back of my car with the seat belt and stays there permanently, then the baby seat just clips into it.

Yes you can add the isofix bar to the MK2. It was a Ł0.00 optional extra at time of purchase from Fords. You can get the bar from any Ford parts department and it just bolts in under the back seat. Simple.

You can buy the isofix base from Ford. Thats what one of the traders said at Santa Pod as i was struggling to find a child seat to fit in the back of mine.

Just a couple of questions guys:

Wots the tax bracket on these?
Wots the best version to get, ST2 or 3 and wots the difference between them?

Think im after a modified one as the standard bhp might get abit boring lol so how do I know if its been modifiied properly?

Thinking about looking at this one over the weekend:

That is very nice and the white pre-facelift 5 doors are VERY rare!! Good spec & price, lots of optional extras & the RS clutch which is nice.

The only standard spec differences between the ST2 & ST3 is sony 6 disc head unit & leather.

Go for it!

Ford Focus ST (06-10)
2.5 ST-3 3d
Rates effective from 1 April 2011

Date of Registration 6 Months 12 Months Band CO2 (g/km)
1 Jan 2006 – 31 Dec 2007 Ł143.00 Ł260.00 K 224

Difference between ST-2 and 3 is the 2 is cloth interior with 3 seats in the rear and grey interior trim. The ST-3 is all black interior trim, rooflining etc, heated leather and 2 seats in the back. I think! Not owned or had a proper look at an ST-2 but my ST-3 has all the above.

my st2 has black roof lining, i think they all do! I went for st2 as not really a big fan of leather, not to mention the rear st3 seat is only for 2!

My mistake!
The rear seat was a pain in the back side trying to find a booster seat for my Mrs little one! The one she had was slightly to wide so ended up at a slight angle. Ended up finding one soon enough that fits perfect!

ST2 comes with Xenons as standard don't they? Just the ST1 that doesn't?

Mine had 4 and not had any problems with it.
Think the main thing for them changing hands a lot is down to tax/fuel costs.

I highly doubt thats the quoted 314bhp, it's even got standard exhaust system. Probably 270 at most. Those K&N filters aren't supposed to be much cop either as it is supposed to be very restrictive.

I went for the 3dr as I prefer the look and it only me most of the time.

Heres mine, only mods are the wheels, eibach springs, dmb gel badges, tinted lights & colour coded fog light surrounds.

Ive got an auto dim mirror to fit but cant find the wires so far.

I don't mind mine being a 4 seater. But to be honest I have a fear of middle seats after a bad car crash when I was a teen.
