At present they can issue you a fine there. If you don't get collared there and then they are unlikely to persue you and you can't have your UK licence endorsed

I don't know about belguim but in Holland if you get pulled by the cops its an instant fine minimum of 300 euro's to be paid on the spot in cash if you cannot pay there and then they will leave you somewhere safe e.g motorway service station and confiscate your car.
This happened to a work collegue of mine last month, in total inc fine it cost him 480 euros to get his care back from the police station plus 235 euro's in taxi fares.

In belgium you don't get points, only fines. if you drive 10 km/h too fast it's 50 euro, 20 is 100 euro can't remember what's above that really but it gets expensive

I was running late for the euro tunnel booking we had, and as a result was going a touch over the limit, when I spot a police car parked up on the side of the motorway, window open and pointing something out the window...

Bugger, must have cought me, I thought as I went past.

This was very close to the last toll booths before you get to the tunnel, and as I exited the toll gate, a policeman, holding a bit of paper, started to walk out into the road and into my 'lane'

Bugger, I thought again, this is where I get pulled over and fined!

But no, he looked at our car, then turned round and went back to the side of the road

I floored it at that point in case he changed his mind!

Phew

in france the toll roads have cameras and when you get to the end your number plate is lit up and the operator will charge you an extra 60 euro's or more, depending on speed. the non toll roads just register the plate and usually nothing is heard

france did try to make an agreement with DVLA re points and fines couple of years ago, but never got finalised

I only raised this because when driving to amsterdam and back at the weekend the speed limits are not any where near as clear as england, the speed seems to change from 120-110-90-70kph with not many signs. So if you get caught doing 120kph in a 90kph by genuine confusion then i dont see it fair giving you points, i can maybe understand a fine to an extent. That is all!

If it happened in certain other countries, such as germany he could have been arrested as a vagrant, it is a legal requirement as a visitor to carry a certain amount on you 100% of the time.
When I drove in spain due to issues I used to carry bonds with me.
