I'd say these 2 are deffo top sleepers:
Peugeot 405 mi16 (Top speed 132 mph)
MG ZT260 (top speed 155 mph)
Be honest, these do not look like they can do these speeds, do they? If you saw one come up behind you, you wouldn't give either a second glance.

Yeh i must admint them rover 75's with the V8s are a bit of a sleeper. At one of the garages i used to work at we had one of the mg's come in and it had x power exhausts on and it sounded mint.

GMC syclone/typhoon
"Both the Syclone and Typhoon (SyTy) trucks featured a Mitsubishi TD06-17C 8 cm˛ turbocharger[1] and Garrett water/air intercooler attached to a 4.3 L LB4 V6 engine with unique pistons, main caps, head gaskets, intake manifolds, fuel system, exhaust manifolds, and a 48mm twin bore throttle body from the 5.7 L GM Small-Block engine. All SyTy's had a 700R4 (4L60) 4-speed automatic transmission. A Borg Warner all wheel drive transfer case split torque with 35% forward and 65% to the rear wheels.[1] Both trucks featured sport modifications to the standard suspensions. The Syclone was the first production truck to receive a 4 wheel anti-lock braking system. Output was 280 hp (209 kW) and 350 lbˇft (475 Nˇm).[1] The Syclone, when new, was capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and could do a quarter-mile run in 13.4 seconds at 98 mph (158 km/h). Car & Driver tested the Syclone and it ran 0-30 in 1.3 seconds with a 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, the 1/4 mile was 13.06."

They did a 2.4 160bhp non turbo petrol version as well but i don't think we got it over here it was only in brazil, the 2.4's are good for tuning though i believe.
They did estate versions called the marea weekend as well with the 2.0 20v in 180hp, . You could also get a 2.4 Diesel one.
Bordin motorsport have or did have a 650+ horsie one.

Rod, I have seen off many cars in a rover 220gti turbo, only running 1 bar, bikes evo,s ect, it would of had no trouble giving a standard 2wd a run for it's money, take your parkers book figures out your ass and get in the real world. Just look at the boys in the goon, not much out at Combe on it's ass?

Mate of mine used to have a mk1 charade like this, it was black and had a hand painted red stripe down the side. Was a proper grot-mobile but used to go like hot shit off the lights, but fook all happened after about 60mph Had a 'wind up' turbo knob inside the car that increased the boost pressuure the more you turned it
I remember back in the day beating a brand new mk3 golf gti off the lights in it, them were the days

Friend of a friend has a little mitsubushi people carrier jobbie.....
Looks totally standard and un-assuming but it's got an evo 3 engine and running gear.
Can't for the life of me think of what it's called....it's about the size of the little space star mini MPV
Before anyone jumps on me saying ''out the box sleeper'' , this is how it came out the factory ! Rare as rocking horse shit aswell !

Galant VR-4 is a total sleeper, 2.5 v6 twin turbo with Evo running gear. Looks like the kind of car my grandad would appreciate (looks wise).
What about the Proton GTi thing? Was that not a non-turbo mitsubishi engine of some sort?
I recently bought an Alfa Mito 1.4 Turbo and that is surprisingly quick! Same engine as the Punto/500 Abarth. Mine even has factory fitted Brembo 4 pots.
The cloverleaf is 167bhp and 184lb/ft torque which I think is incredible from a 1.4T, can be pumped up to 186bhp with a remap too.
