ignore the ticket is what most will say

is there a big red letter with a pic of the car allegedly in a part of the world it shouldn't be?

they did me for reversing in a car park because the guy who was taking the pics parked his motor across the bit of land that you needed to cross so you couldn't have 2 way traffic across it

sentsome letters, then basicly told them to get fucked and didn't reply to any other letters

they sent me another one a few years later to which i just opened up and kept to see what it was all about, and then they sent me another one the next day saying there had been an admin error

as above , bin it , as it is a civil matter it would cost the company more to take you to court than the fine they have issued.

i work closely with 2 different parking firms (i have to go & move cars from emergency vehicle access roads for them) (just to point out i dont take them away i just move them up the road out of the way to allow fire engines access ect)

and both firms have always told me to not pay any ticket that is issued by a private
firm you have to pay the council / police tickets as they have you bang to rights but private firms will not take legal action as it costs way too much money & requires too much effort

they work on 60% pay within 7 days 30% pay witin 4 weeks & 10% get away scott free because they have refused to pay!

As above, tell them to fuck off. Pretty sure if they do take you to court they can only take you for the tickets face value and not other incured costs. One solicitors letter will cost more than the ticket value.

I've had a few from private companies, never paid one of them and always just shredded them. I've had a few threatening letters, some even from an official looking 'solicitor', they just get shredded and they will eventually give up. They pray on the innocent who will just pay and forget about it. The more people who refuse to pay them though, the sooner they will give up and ty a new business.

As above though, if it is a council one, then pay it

they cant even take you for the tickets value. They can only sue you for damages but the figures have to be realistic. And £70 or what they charge is not reasonable damages for the "crime". Very few judges would consider that a resonable fee for say overstaying a 2 hour free parking window etc

even if your in a random private car park for offices or similar, they would still have to prove value/worth to the alleged damages.

Warren is right - they will have difficulty demonstrating what their loss is.

As most have already said, ignore it, stick to your guns and don't be intimidated by the numerous letters which will follow and they will eventually give up.

its quite comical when ive read up the odd case on private companies taking someone to court and they got awarded something pathetic like £1.20 in damages for the time overstayed in the pay and display (the hourly rate )

i always though even in a civil caught the winning party will claim 'damages' from the loosing party eg court fees on top of what compensation they win?
