Default Bmw brake light failure help

i have a bmw e60 and brake light failure has come up on the idrive and the car wont start, has anyone any idea whats wrong with it the brake lights work fine so i dont understand, i did get it to start one and everything was fine other than telling me about the brake light failure

Is it auto? Requires foot on brake to start? Could be the switch that's dodgy.

As said due to the type of car chances are it's auto, if so I would suspect the said switch, a light out would not stop it from starting but perhaps it will do if the switch isn't working?

its a manual, i pulled a load of fuses and got it to start but its stopped again
