well it wont be a standard car anymore , so you might have to go to a specialist insurer like adrian flux, it's somewhere to start

http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/high-per...Fcod4QodB0AODg

it's not advisable, not to tell the insurance company, because you know what will happen, ive seen loads on ebay, 1100 fiesta's with xr2 engines fitted, but still 1100 on the logbook, just means you've got invalid insurance if you make a claim, or get stopped by the boys in blue and they start poking about

When I fitted a 24v to my old xr4x4 the insurance companies told me they insure I based on whichever car is in the highest bracket. Eg if xr4x4 was in group 16 and Granada cosworth in group 18 they would insure as a group 18 car.

I can't remember what I used to pay but I think it was only something like an extra Ł50 after the conversion.

obviously it's completely different between you and me because i'm 17 but with my car insured through a specialist motorsport company my insurance is much cheaper with a 2.0 ZVH than it was through a mainstream insurer on the standard 1300

I put a 2.0 Zetec from a mondeo into my gti and was charged and extra Ł40 by adrian flux, when it is all sorted they send you a modified car form which you need to put all the information on like: make and model of car the engine came from, any mods to the engine and the engine number.

Without a doubt tell them, get caught without "modified cover" on a modded car and they will soon be able to crush your car, laws are imminent, about bloody time too imo.
Just phone around a few dozen specialists, but don't forget cheapest isn't always best!!

Custom insurance can actually be pretty reasonable, my mate (Much to my horror) had a C20LET Corsa and being young the insurance was not to bad which was more then can be said for the car, but thats what he had his insured as which is a similar principle to what your doing.

Insurance is the easy bit

Convincing the DVLA that you have changed the engine is the hard part

They will want to see a garage receipt for the engine stating year of manufacture, cc and fuel type.

Do not bother sending off your log book without this info as they will keep it until you send the evidence they require.

Printing your own and posting it off would be very naughty!

You do realise that when plod get their way incorrect tax could void your insurance, that's if the insurer insures you in the first place, they will have ALL of your driving details and car details in front of them, if you lie to them and a claim arises, they will use the recording of the conversation as evidence against you and you get done for no insurance by plod as well.
You're not the first and won't be the last sadly to try this, there are people employed by dvla to scour forums/ebay etc for these issues and action is taken, some years back the IFD was set up to tackle this issue, the Insurance Fraud Database, is very effective, up to you whether you think it is worth the risk.
