Exclamation P0030 fault (open loop)

Hi

I have a 1.3 54 KA.

- changed the heater module to stop ONLY hot air blowing, this was a success, after reconnecting the battery I had a engine management light come on.

- went to mates to use obd2 scanner, came up with p0030 fault code (Powertrain: H02S Heater control circuit Bank 1: Sensor 1) and couldn't complete a test on the fuel system because: "Open Loop: Has not yet satisfied conditions to go Closed Loop".

- replaced the sensor 1 on manifold £50

- reset fault code, but reappeared!

- there is voltage going to the sensor.

- Car is leaning to rich mixture (assume this means drinking my fuel more).

- There is no running problems, just using a lot more fuel.

This code can appear for many reasons not just the O2 sensor itself.
I would do some live reading checks on the TPS and coolant sensor too but you will need a code reader with live data functions.

I have an obd2 scanner coming tomorrow or the day after. It comes with software, but is there a certain piece of software I should download? And what sort of live stream test should I be looking to perform?

Thanks for your reply!!

It's more than likely the other o2 sensor after the manifold as they go regularly, much cheaper though as a universal one will suffice.
Try leaving the battery off overnight as well as this often works to reset the ECU completely.

normally if it comes up with a hego sensor fault on a ka then the upstream hego will need replacing and also the ecu software needs updating too as the parameter limits on the new sensor need adjusting in the ecu.heres a snippet of the ford technical bulletin, hope it helps tsb 67/2006.

Hi mate, cheers for that! So if this is a TSB from Ford, does that mean they should do the update for free? I have purchased the correct O2 sensor, but like I said the MIL is still on.

Thanks again!
